Simple fact is you can't dispute that the US likes to throw it's weight around, and whilst I'm sure - just like every other nation in history - you can justify it to yourselves with nice euphamisms like 'policing' and 'protecting our interests' things don't really look the same to other folk. But you're right that that's just the way of the world... every dominant nation got that way by leveraging economic advantage or military might to the detriment of others.
