Canelo looked decent against a faded champ in kovalev at 175. But I think he’s better suited for 168. Could he realistically beat benavidez or plant?

He would KO Plant without a problem in my opinion. Benavidez is much better than Plant in my opinion and I think he would be a very hard fight for Canelo because of his combination of speed, power and high punch output. Canelo might need some help from the friendly Vegas judges to win that fight. Pretty even fight. -
I was thinking a lot of the same. Plant would present some mobility issues, but if uzcategui could touch him up, canelo could definitely inflict heavy damage. But benavidez is really starting to look like a very good fighter. That’s a very competitive match up and I’m curious if it’s something GBP would explore in the future. I’m guessing that GGG is most likely next. If they fight at 168 and canelo wins then things start to get interesting on what he does beyond that.He would KO Plant without a problem in my opinion. Canelo would never fight those guys realistically.
Canelo-BJS or Canelo-Callum Smith are much more likely at 168, for obvious reasons I don't need to explain.
Only PBC guys I can see Canelo facing are Errol Spence Jr and Jermall Charlo at 160.Comment

The weird thing is because of styles and match ups and all that, I could see canelo reaching out to the PBC before fighting smith or BJSComment

Honestly what's the point...he can probably fight competitive enough vs them...and if he does so he will get the win on the cards...and if he is competitive enough, all his 'fans' will say he won and will defend the 'win' even if he really probably lost or if it was a draw type fight...not being salty about it, Canelo is great...but I have no real interest in him vs anyone in particular because people don't really evaluate Canelo very neutrally, on any side really.
I don't think he KOs Plant, and probably not Benevidez as well...I think Plant would be an even fight for him and he would probably beat David unless David is a better boxer/puncher than I give him credit for right now.
Canelo's issue imo is that while he has nice speed/defense/combos/skills...he isn't really very active, so struggles to win clear rounds in big fights...you see the skills and he takes shots well, and doesn't take too many of them anyway.
But he never really puts on a clinic in any fight, for any extended period/rounds...he is great but I don't quite put him on the level of some other even current greats...his activity just isn't enough imo.Last edited by Boxing_1013; 11-06-2019, 07:12 PM.Comment
