    How Did Roy Look?

I admit that I though Roy was done. I thought the weight loss killed him and he would never be any good again. I even put $25 on him losing and another $25 on a draw. I didnt really think he would lose but I thought the odds were worth it since he had looked so bad.

Then I was watching Quite Frankly yesterday or maybe it was FNF and they showed a clip of RJ shadow boxing and his hands looked super quick. Ofcourse you cant tell much from that but it looked like a pre Tarver Jones.

Ive heard different opinions of how he looked tonight so what can you tell me. Also keep it relative. If he did look good then was it because he fought a bum or did RJ look legitimate.

Some of you say that he should still stay away from Tarver and he will never beat him but I disagree. I think a pre Roy before the Ruiz fight wouldve killed Tarver and he was just on a different level but the weight loss killed him. Now the same goes for Tarver. Tarver gained too much weight to do that movie and the weight loss killed him for the X fight.

I love Hopkins just as much as anyone but the truth is that Tarver was dead in that fight but I dont care because RJ was dead in the Tarver fights. The thing that makes me mad is alot of writers and fans act like those fights were real. You could tell that those guys were not the same at all and it wouldve been totally different fights minus the weight gain.

Thats why I think if Roy did really look good tonight then he should fight Tarver now because I think he will win. I think like Roy, Tarver will look dead for a few fights and maybe forever. He wont look much better then he did in that Hopkins fight and thats why I think Lacy would Knock him out right now. If RJ ever wants to beat Tarver then now is the time to do it.

Roy looked good against a quality, highly rated opponent.
Pro's He threw great combinations and worked well to the body.
Con's He looked flatfooted and didnt move enough.

I think he could actully beat Hopkins if they fought, simply because he has a huge style advantage.
I think he can beat alot of the 175 guys out there, but i dont want to see him agianst Joe or Glen again.

      - his hand speed is still just as fast as ever.

      - he doesn't move his feet nearly as much as he used too, more stationary and looking to counter punch.

      - his reflexes look good, but still and always will have his defensive flaws (holding hands below waist)

      - his stamina looked great, better than previous bouts, but you must take in consideration he took alot more punches in previus bouts than this one.

I watched this fight live. Plain and simple , Roy looked good against a B level opponent in Badi Ajumu. He threw some decent combinations but his trademark lead right hand was missing. His rope a dope moves are gone too and his footwork is much slower. His punches also seem to lack any pop too , they look more like arm punches now. Lots of speed but aint gonna hurt anyone.

                Im glad somebody gets it.

as for roy,a little sluggish on his feet, nice speed when he threw combinations. It should be noted,ALOT of the time was spent on the ropes, prince would pressure roy there, and roy would let him, prince smothered his own punches after the first round. He was also frustrated by the ref who broke them up quick and didnt let him work, Roy dominated all the rounds except maybe the first though.

Roy lost the 1st round when Baid bum-rushed him. I was scared...I honestly felt Roy would probably lose.

But Roy kind of surprised me, and that was because of two things: Roy was pretty confident and in good (not great) shape & Badi is not as good as Tarver or Johnson. I would call Tarver and Johnson B+ fighters, while Ajamu is a C fighter.

Roy was pretty flat-footed. If you rated his footwork a 10 in his prime, I'd say it was a 6.5 for this fight. Compared to the young Roy Jones, his speed was a 8 (still pretty damn good) and power a 8. So basically he's slid a bit and you can tell. But he threw some nice combos now and then, and worked the body very well indeed. I mean I'm sure more than half his throws were for body shots.

He still is fighting hands-down style and Joe C. or Glen could make him pay for that. His jab looked good though and you can tell he is definitely using it more now.

When Badi bumrushed Roy in the first it was shades of Tarver or Glenn Johnson for a minute or two. Jones got caught with some shots but gained composure after a while. After that Badi just seemed to give up! and the low blows he was intentionally throwing was obvious.
