    Let's Talk About Canelo's Power

Would Canelo have more stoppages if he let his hands go more?

jumps up 2 weight classes and knocks out a very good bigger fighter.

    Made Kov's legs jello.

While Kov isn't the most durable champion, Canelo clearly has power.

Would Canelo have more stoppages if he let his hands go more?

Not sure if you're serious. The guy lets his hands go as frequently as anyone to have ever stepped in a boxing ring. He's always pressing the action and throwing hard.

Saul averaged 30 punches per round last night.

He's very deliberate with his shots and knows when to let combos rip.

His actual workrate isn't high though

That's right. The term "letting your/his hands go" means when it's (obviously) intelligent/necessary/purposeful to do so.

I can't remember ever seeing Canelo miss an opportunity to let his hands go.

          Bernard Hopkins; not so much.

I'm sure most would be surprised how many elite fighters and great fighters have had issues at times letting their hands go when it is basic common sense to do so.

Canelo lets his hands go as much as responsibly possible.

if he let his hands go beyond that he might have a few KO L by now.

canelo can get more stoppages now that he has increased his steroid intake. couldnt KO middleweights or Chavez Jr because he wasn't consuming enough roids. he's upped his roid intake so now he can easily KO guys much bigger than him. canelo is a bulky lean no fat 175'er.

                Here is the best answer.

Again, Canelo wasn’t weight drained. Now in his prime, oddly enough, Canelo was in optimal performance. Having not suffered draining on the scale like all other fighters provides extra durability. This is a fact. Canelo’s stamina was even better in the late rounds. But this could also be because Canelo is now being more conservative with accurate punching as his Ring IQ continues to elevate. Just like Post Floyd was so intuitively sound that he didn’t have to rely on offensive battering and defensive countering gave him points to victory.

Canelo has always been criticized as spurts puncher. Thats because Canelo’s classic style is power punching. Power punching takes a lot of energy out of any fighter, and because Canelo was draining before like any other, it takes a toll on performance in the late rounds.

Most fans should lace up some gloves and hit a heavy bag. See the difference in getting tired if you’re throwing more jabs than combination power punching. The “slick style” has its cliche norm to be fluid with jabs and movingly. That’s preference, and takes less energy. If James Toney wasn’t a defensive guru, he would’ve had more trouble in late rounds since his output wasn’t as high as well

Canelo should just continue doing what he feels best. At the very least, his decisions are impressing the fans.
