Larry Merchant just called everyone on here casuals

In the video boxingscene just posted, he said Alvarez didn’t beat the best light heavyweight, just the best known light heavyweight and said the casuals will consider that to be another title but people that really know boxing no what’s up.

“Did he beat the best light heavyweight in the world or did he just beat a guy with a title? When he beats the best light heavyweight in the world I‘all think of him as a guy who has won championships in more divisions.”

I have to appreciate Larry Merchant for his knowledge and honesty, as always.

True. Although I'd say Kovalev was one of the best LHWs -- nothing to scoff at.

I said this years ago and I'll repeat, Merchant is a no nonsense, no BS type of guy. He isn't a company shill like Kellerman, Jones, Leonard and whoever else gets paid on to talk about boxing. The guy always called it like it is. I remember him being so enthusiastic about Mayweather till Mayweather's laughable attempts to avoid Cotto and Margarito then Merchant got real. Most on here hated him because they ARE casuals.

Now he is getting real again. Canelo beat a belt holder, personally I'd be all up for and hyping this win if it had not occurred in the fashion that it did. Kovalev looked like he had arrived for a sparring session.

I guarantee Canelo will not fight Beterbiev or Bivol, not at the full 175 anyway.

If the GGG fight is next, it is because he has seen just how far the 37 year old has slid since their last meeting.

Dazn had the audacity to put up that graphic comparing canelo to Armstrong, a guy who held 3 real titles simultaneously. It was also interesting how they put that up before the fight, like canelo had already won.
