He's had a ton of fights for a guy his age. I just don't seem getting any better.

he'll age better at a higher weight class.

he's built like Manny Pacquiao. short thick but with a huge head(good for taking punishment). even slowing down would ensure he has a speed advantage at the higher weight classes.

Kovalev was able to keep him at bay with his jab and pitty-pat punches.

Ive always said Canelo hasn't improved by much since Mayweather but the consensus is he's improved by leaps and bounds. Canelo knows how to win fights by landing perfectly timed flashy punches. He can steal a round by simply landing one or two really nice shots. He's never in danger of being hurt or KO'd because he has one of the best chins in boxing. If you can't hurt him you have to basically win or control every minute of every round kinda like Mayweather did. He also pack enough punch to stop everyone he's supposed to KO.

With that being said I don't think 175 will be a permanent stop for him because there are more determined fighters than Kovalev who won't have to conserve their energy for a long fight.

Was beautiful watching Mayweather school him every round.

Canelo cannot win rounds based on 2 timed punches. Especially when he is outthrown and outlanded like he is in 99% of his fights

He'll adjust to his speed eroding (he didn't look slow nor stiff to me last night). His style will age well. He has an elite defense, is a good counter puncher, and understands how to incorporate his strengths into his style and strategy. The fighters that age well have that trait in common.

Unlike the other elite fighters that age well, he's not a great ring general and lacks the offensive intuition to win rounds convincingly. If his power doesn't bail him out like last night, he's liable to be outworked in rounds and fights.
