this is just Ward being the egotistical douchebag that he always is. By throwing shade on Kovalev before the fight, he covers both outcomes:

1. In the event Canelo wins, its Wards way of claiming that HIS win was better, as he fought the better version of Kovalev

2. In the event that Kovalev wins, then Ward can say that even the diminished Kovalev was too much for Canelo, but that he beat the "prime" Kovalev not once, but twice.


He's getting just like Floyd with his neurotic inability to let any other fighter shine except himself...........

what i dont like about ward is that he is preemptively downplaying a canelo victory and the sheer accomplishment of him overcoming a man that is 2 weight classes bigger than he is.

"yeah you beat kovalev, but i beat a better kovalev..." like he feels threatened that the best win on his resume just got beat by a mw fighter, though he does it in his usual smug way from his high horse as an 'analyst' but really its his inner butthurt ego that cant stomach a mw potentially beating his single best win and without controversy to boot (first fight ward lost, second was a nut-punching simulator).

if canelo beats kovalev fair and square then that is more than what you can say about ward V kovalev, and he knows it. history will always bring up the controversy surrounding both ward v kovalev fights

as a ward fan the truth is ward doesn't have one convincing win over kovalev. sorry. both were tainted with controversy. controversial outcomes are nothing to brag about.

if ANYBODY would be saying this it should be eleieder alvarez who knocked kovalev smooth out with no controversy.

ward should not be speaking like this. and i also as a ward fan didnt respect the fact he needed 2-3 tune ups to gain confidence to face kovalev. meanwhile canelo is taking the fight as his DEBUT match at 175. theres no comparison, canelo definitely is showing bigger heart than ward.
