I see your point with Whyte, as he took the Chisora fight when WBC ordered the fight with the old fella for the mandatory shot with Wilder.
Ortiz was however offered the opportunity that Ruiz took advantage of on June 01st ajnd for a career high payday, but he took Haymon's offer of a rematch with Wilder instead. If he was good enough to win, his rematch with Wilder could have been for all of the belts.

Ortiz didn't have enough time to prepare for AJ.
I strongly suspect he would have had failed a PEDs test if he had taken the fight. Not hating on him for taking PEDs just highlighting that most fighters these days need take PEDs and need to time there cycles just right to beat the testers. Which is probably why AJ books venues/dates 12 months in advance before hes even found an opponent.

Ortiz would never turn down a shot at AJ. Unless he was forced to. The guy has nothing to lose and is 40 years old, and has a very good chance of winning, and would be guaranteed millions.

Andy Ruiz Jr did alright with no prep time. But to be fair, i think the only things that would show up in his PED tests would be excess sugar, salts, and cholesterol. But hey, it worked so fair play to the lad.
