LAS VEGAS Canelo Alvarez can win a world title in a fourth weight class if he defeats WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev on Saturday night. Alvarez knows, of course, that making this type of history still won't sway his detractors. In fact, Alvarez realizes that, no matter what he accomplishes for the remainder of his career, he'll never convert those critics into supporters.

If you keep getting gift decisions people are bound not to like you. And those who think Canelo will win by knock out when last did Canelo knock out a legit opponent?

Gift decisions are cheap and cliche excuses by haters, rinsed for years. If this was genuinely true, most boxers and legends wouldn’t even speak highly or respect Canelo. Most boxers and legends praise him. Are they ******? Are boxers immune to seeing his skills? Why would boxers and legends do him any favors to credit him if theory is he gets “gift” decisions?

I used to like this guy and root for him up until the mayweather fight. How it usually goes is that in order to become the cashcow, you must dethrone the cashcow. Mayweather and Pacquiao did this by beating the cashcow at the time who was delahoya. On top of this they fought the who's who across several divisions. Canelo didn't do that. He was utterly embarrassed over 12 rounds by an older smaller mayweather. I think that embarrassment triggered something in his mind and he wanted to have the power and the pull on his opponents, just like mayweather had on him. He made up his own division at 155,fought smaller, past prime chinny fighters, cherry picked belts, and received more than one favorable decision. He became the cashcow only when mayweather decided to step down. By definition canelo became an entitled diva, and that's when he lost me as a fan.

Because he is the cash cow at the moment and he is also Mexican. You can’t deny he has been given Christmas gifts and hasn’t really had a convincing victory against someone with a pulse.

Yeah yeah... as if Ward paid the judges directly to do him favors against Kovalev 1. GGG groupies and their theories about Divaism .. the irony

You prefer Canelo to fight the Jason Sosa or Indongos or Bertos? Jacobs alone is more skilled and elevated than any of these guys mentioned... excuses

Maybe if Canelo quits cherry picking his legacy people would like him more. Beat a prime Andrade and Charlo. If you want to conquer 175 beat Beterviev and not a shot Kovelev
