Anyone can get dropped. He won the fight by KO. That's all that matters. All the greats got dropped, except Mayweather because of his style and strategic fight selection. No one is invincible. What happens after you get dropped is what proves how good of a fighter you are. Ali was dropped by Brit Henry Cooper. Is that any different than Beterbiev being dropped by Brit Callum Johnson?

The bs narrative is that kov is washed up because yarde had him in trouble in the only rd he won & was kod by a jab anyways,yet Beterbieve who wasn't even available to Nelo is supposedly the top dog beast at lhw who Nelo won't fight supposedly because of it,yet he was almost kod by a no hoper journeyman. Thanks for making my point though that yes Kovalev isn't washed up nor inferior in difficulty to Beterbieve for Nelo

Beterbiev reminds me of David Lemieux. He's a come-forward brawler with no defense. This will work as long as he can walk through his opponents and manage to land punches. Will not work against smarter or tougher opponents. Here's how I see the LHW division currently:

1. Kovalev
2. Beterbiev
3. Bivol

Bivol is technically talented but lacks toughness. Maybe he should go down a division?

I'm from Montreal so I've been following both fighters since the beginning of their professional careers. The only thing they have in common is the fan perception of them both being power punchers. As far as how they generate their power, they are exact opposites. Lemieux needs to load up to generate power. On the other hand Beterbiev, generates power with 6 inch punches; he's a freak.

Now that's only their power. Lemieux has one of the worst jabs ever for a world champ, Beterbiev's jab is basically a straight left, not my words, Ward said it during the fight with Gvozdyk

Beterbiev's ring IQ is extremely underrated and understandably, he's such a good puncher which is what people notice immediately. That said, you simply cannot have the amateur record/pedigree he had only with punching power, he calculates distance and use frames to set up his punches with the best of them. The amount of times I've seen him use his elbows to setup the right is unreal; his opponents are left dazed and confused. His counter punching and close range fighting also both unreal.

Add to that the lifestyle discipline Beterbiev has as opposed to Lemieux's. I know for a fact that Lemieux consistently would have late night fast food during training; that partially explains why he always has issues making weight. On the other hand, Beterbiev does not drink, he doesn't party and goes to bed early every night. That's because of his self discipline but also his religious beliefs.

That might explain why Beterbiev looks like he could fight 30 rounds as opposed to Lemieux who always looks gassed around round 5-6.

Please, enlighten me to Beterbiev's technical mastery which I am clearly missing.. Tell me how he is not a plodding, one dimensional fighter who throws power punches.. They are the same exact type of fighter.

I will say that Beteriev is obviously more effective at this point in his career than David Lemieux is, if that's where your undefined point of contention lies.

You are a typical modern boxing fan for thinking because someone gets dropped in a fight they aren't world level. At one time in boxing, great fighters got dropped and no one called them trash because they fought often and never rejected a challenge. You are a bi-product of the Mayweather era.

Sure. Add Inoue to that list three times. You're acting like this is the first time a guy has moved up in weight to fight a champ.

And sure, throw Nelo in there before the fight happens. Throw Mikey Garcia in there too then.

You cannot deny they are about equally dangerous for different reasons.

I have been a huge Beterbieve fan since way before the bandwagoners now suddenly hanging on his nuts. BUT Beterbieve has just as many weaknesses & strengths as kov & hes nowhere near as accomplished or proven. (& I have a bet w shadow702 that Beterbieve will beat Kovalev who I used to call foldalev when I made the bet,that bets been on the books for over a yr. Kov has proven to be a reborn fighter last 2 fights,no longer foldalev)

But Beterbieve was dropped recently by a no hoper & he looked a bit concussed. & That was someone who hed been battering beforehand all fight but Johnson got up repeatedly & almost stopped Beterbieve (uk stops everything)

As good as Beterbieve is the fact everyone is now Deifying him & using him as a supposed boogieman while shtting on kov as a supposed cherry for Nelo demonstrates how pathetic nelos haters are that they are shameless enough to keep saying "Yarde almost stopped Kovalev in the lone rd he won by landing 8 more punches" as if Beterbieve didn't get dropped by a badly battered no hoper,& as if his lone named win in Gvozdyke wasn't someone who himself has looked like sht his last fight v a no hoper,& got lucky Stevensons brain went out when he was winning.

Its pathetic how the media & fans expose how much of casuals they are that they can't see these obvious truths. Yarde was miles better & "a prime unbeaten lhw puncher " with a 100% ko record & he didn't drop Kov, Beterbieve was dropped by a bum.

Johnson isn't a bum fighter he's got some pop but Beterbiev shows defensive deficiencies he shouldn't be tagged with someone who took a year off and hasn't had many pro fights.

Johnson is a huge puncher at LHW. He dropped Betebiev and Beterbiev got back up, finished the round strong and took Johnson out of there two rounds later.

Beterbiev also took flush shots from Gvozdyk (who was pre-fight favourite and also a massive puncher) and didn't even flinch. He kept coming forward all night.

I think it's proven now beyond a doubt that Beterbiev has a SOLID chin.

And anyone who thinks Canelo is suddenly going to take Beterbiev out or break him down needs a damn lobotomy. If you guys have never seen Canelo hit the canvas, tune in to see Beterbiev wreck him. He isn't a shot Kovalev who is fighting for money and has legal issues.
