Comments Thread For: Canelo: I'm No. 1 P4P, I've Done Better Than Crawford, Loma

LAS VEGAS Canelo Alvarez believes he has established himself as the best boxer, pound-for-pound, in the sport. The accomplished Mexican contended Tuesday that it's difficult to argue against the resume he has built on his way to winning world titles in three weight classes. The 29-year-old Alvarez has decisively defeated Miguel Cotto, Daniel Jacobs and an aged Shane Mosley, owns narrow victories over Gennadiy Golovkin and Erislandy Lara, and has lost only to former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Even though I have GGG winning the first fight I agree 100%. His resume is way better than these 2. He's no.1 on my list.

If he wins against kov then he has a legitimate claim for p4p. Similarily if loma beats haney and lopez he will be #1 or if crawford beats spence/pac he will be number 1

It isnt rocket science.. Loma *dominated* so many fighters that were top 5 in the division when he fought them.

Canelo has a couple wins that are arguably losses. Personally, the only win he has that I thought was a loss was the first GGG fight but there's also the Lara and Trout fights that he might've been gifted.

He has more of a case against Crawford being higher than him, though I dont think Crawford has had any close wins.

Red azz, getting gift decisions doesn't make you p4p#1.

Absolutely not. First of all, none of the top 3 p4p have cheated like CCC did. Second of all, they own victories against better opponents who weren't on the decline. CCC waits for these guys to age or show signs of slowing down, then he fights them and STILL lost to GGG in most observers' opinion. Mayweather must've scared him into doing that after he made him look like an amateur when they fought...
Crawford, Loma and Inoue have beaten their opponents decisively. - The same cannot be said for CCC, who has had several close fights gifted to him.
Let's be honest, he's only fighting Kovalev because he has slowed down tremendously and has been very vulnerable as of late. He's fighting the weakest in each division to capture titles in each division, which is still a great feat, but also doesn't make him better than the top p4p folks. Not even a win over a washed up, almost KO'd Kovalev, should put him into consideration to move up the p4p ladder.

P4P is subjective, P4P is up for opinion and in my opinion Canelo is in a group of about 3 fighters who have the right to say he is P4P number 1.

He's got something else that neither of the other man has; disputed points victories. There's no dis*****g any of the victories on the records of Loma or Crawford. That being said, he is the bigger star of the 3 regardless of where he is in the p4p list.
