  • Brian Nielsen (GOAT)

One of the greatest and most underrated boxer of all time. A true knowledgeable boxing fan would know who I am talking about - the danish heavyweight champion Brian Nielsen. This guy had a god gifted talent his vision and technical attributes was just incredible. Brian Nielsen was 49-0 before he got some controversial loses.. Brian was out of his prime no major name dared to fight him in his prime only Larry Holmes did and Holmes got schooled by Nielsen..

The reason Nielsen never got the chance to fight for the big titles was because he was a Dane.. and that time there wasn’t money to make on a danish Nielsen later on when Nielsen lost his trust in the sport and wasn’t fighting serious anymore and only for the money Tyson and later on Holyfield took the risk to get such an incredible fighter on their cv..

If anyone fought Nielsen in his prime they would get a big time ass whooping...

Besides Holmes, Witherspoon and Tubbs are notable names on Nielsen's resume. Their 'schooling' was worse than Holmes'.

Nielsen is one of my favourite white boxers. I wouldn't call him the GOAT, as I consider him inferior to at least 10 other heavyweights (Lewis, Foreman, Ali, etc.), but he's definetely within the top 15. He beat some good opponents, such as Larry Holmes and Don Steele, and he had an amazing record, almost breaking Rocky Marciano's. Nielsen is underrated, that much is certain. You don't get so many wins, against so good opponents, and an Olympic medal, if you don't got some mad skills.

People avoided Nielsen in his prime. In his prime he was unbeatable as Teddy Atlas described him!

Valuev was just a big, ugly coward.

Nielsen fought undefeated fighters like Damon Reed, dangerous knockout artists like Don Steele, boxing legends like Larry Holmes and there's a reason why Holyfield avoided him like the plague until he got old and shot. This was even joked about in the commercials for their fight, with Holyfield saying "Brian who?", as if he never knew Brian existed. Also, keep in mind that Nielsen got an Olympic medal.

Link? I have a tough time believing Atlas described Nielsen as “unbeatable “.

Nielsen was an average contender at best. The versions of Holmes, Witherspoon and Tubbs he beat were ancient and Nielsen only got a split vs Holmes.

While I do consider Tyson a better boxer than Brian, it's worth noting that Tyson hit him below the belt and Brian wasn't the same for the rest of the fight after that. Brian also likely got drugged before the first ****y Ryan fight, but when sober, you saw how he schooled Ryan in the rematch.

The Holyfield fight wasn't that controversial, it was just a cowardly act by Holyfield to fight Brian when he was so far past his best.
