  • Comments Thread For: Taylor-Prograis: Judging The Judges - Scorecard Analysis

Three rounds into the World Boxing Super Series junior welterweight final between Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis, it seemed for certain that the final scores would be all over the place. While none of the judges were wider than three points apart, their round-by-round scoring suggested a winding road map.

The head movement defense from Prograis is insane. And Taylor got great chin

"Consensus scoring" would have had this fight a draw:

          Prograis won rounds 1, 2, 4, 8, 11 & 12

          Taylor won rounds 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 & 10

That first judge was in the minority for 5 of the 12 rounds (Rating 58%)

Middle judge was only in the minority on one round (Rating 92%)

Last judge was in the minority on 3 rounds (Rating 75%), including Round 12. If he scores the round like the other 2 did - fight is a draw.

Judges should be rated like this every fight and only the ones who "rate" 85 or higher should get the championship, high-profile fights.

The judges who rate below 70 need remedial training.

the 12th was the best round for prograis yet he somehow finds a way to give it to taylor. this proves he just wanted taylor to win just like ward-kovalev. they back themselves into the corner with their cards then at the end have to give clear rounds to the wrong guy. they cant even cheat right. not like there is any accountability so it doesnt matter

EXACTLY! Judges will sometimes disagree but when they're consistently in the minority...should be retrained or fired. ("Cant even cheat right" - ha ha ha)

No one is mad at Taylor winning. Just mad at the scorecard 117-112.
Unless there is unification, immediate rematch must he ordered

The IBF already has a judges grading system in place similar to what you’ve outlined here. Works for the most part, though flawed in fights where the judge in the minority is actually the most accurate (in view of public perception).
