Comments Thread For: Artur Beterbiev-Oleksandr Gvozdyk: Afterthoughts

Some fights look perfectly matched on paper and miss. Friday wasn't one of those nights. Artur Beterbiev and Oleksandr Gvozdyk showed up prepared, focused, and ready to win. Only one of them could. While Gvozdyk competed hard from start to end, it was apparent early Beterbiev could match Gvozdyk's quickness, take the Ukrainian's best shot, and deliver power to the head and body all night long.

One thing is for ***in sure, red balls will run back down to middleweight if he beats Kovalev. or run to 168 and find some weak ass paper champ to fight. He says he wants to be great and fight the best and he fights the lamest 175 pound champion, the oldest one, and the one who just had a war a month ago. Judges are already prepped and paid just in case he can't get a knockout. I'm sure VADA has been greased too. Whatever it takes to keep the fat red midget winning.

Amazing fight, just thought Arthur beat Gvozdyk mentally in this fight. He had that Tyson feeling about him in there and he was able to get to Gvozdyk in the end. Would be nice to see him now against Bivol and whoever holds the WBO belt thereafter. The best thing about this division, is we have everyone willing to work with each other, in other for us to get an undisputed champion.

... "If Kovalev loses next month, Kovalev-Gvozdyk could be a high profile crossroads fight some time in 2020. Gvozdyk will also have appeal as a Bivol challenger if more unification isn’t immediately forthcoming."...

        OK, but...:

... in case Kovalev loses next he simply retires (the money offer for a Gvozdyk fight would be too low for him, tbh...)

... Bivol can't risk an imminent future unification by fighting such a dangerous opponent in Gvozdyk...

... So... it's all but talk...

On another hand: after this Saturday fight, I think that Canelo's stocks (after possibly beating Kovalev) will sharply drop, more likely!!! Canelo will get no accolades for winning vs the old washed-up Russian... (a typically "cherry pick going wrong", imo...)

Shut the fucc up lame! Canelo fighting Kovalev is strictly a business move.
Everyone knows Canelo doesn't belong in that division so why the fucc would he stay there??

I really enjoyed this fight. Bieterbiev followed the "Salido" plan where he made sure to do all the little dirty things that frustrate the better boxer. He was nasty-couple shots back of the head, grabbed him, pushed him. Made it a real nasty fight that Gvodzyk couldn't handle as the fight wore on.

The only negative part about the fight was Gvodzyk somehow had the lead after 10 and may have gotten a win or a draw he wouldn't have deserved IMO.

Lets hope Bieterbiev gets Kov and Bivol.

Canelo might fight Beterviev though... once Artur is 36 o 37.
