Legal or illegal in my fighting days running, steamroom, sparring & dieting got maybe 12lbs off. And I walked around at 170 & had to make 147. I was maybe 12-13% bodyfat & it was torture to lose anymore. Needless to say I never fought at 147. So how do guys cut weigh from like a 190lbs to make 147 or 140 in six weeks. That's unreal.
What are some techniques for making weight?

That's ridiculous. No one should ever go that far.
I walk around at 152 and fight at 141 for tournaments. There is no need to do anything other than keep in shape and eat right. You want to have your bodyfat at 5-6% at the lowest. High-fiber foods like Raisin Bran and apples also make it a lot easier to make weight.
Let's say you're weighing in on Friday and you are a pro fighter, so the fight is on Saturday. Keep your regular intake of food until Thursday, where you will only eat 2-3 very small meals...things like salad, a bowl of raisin bran, a powerbar, and a cup of pasta. Make your last meal around 2-3 pm. Have only 16 oz of water that day, and don't drink anything after 2-3 p.m. with that last meal.
So from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday until the weigh-in at around 5 p.m. on Friday, you will eat and drink nothing. Here you will come in at an appropriate weight, and still not be pulling a 'Cotto' by killing yourself. From 5 p.m. Fri. to the fight on Sat. night, you'll have plenty of time to rehydrate and eat.
Pedialyte is the best thing to drink ater you weigh in.Comment

It totally depends on your body type. Some people are naturally bigger when not training than others so they lose more weight than someone else who doesn't gain as much weight in the offseason. However they can both probably only safely make the same weight class.Originally posted by I-WISH-A-MF-WOULDLegal or illegal in my fighting days running, steamroom, sparring & dieting got maybe 12lbs off. I use to drop 30-35lbs between football season and wrestling season. 210-215lbs to make 170lbs + the additional pound allowance per month of season and couple of pounds allowed for multiple day tournaments. I wouldn't make this weight till the cities came along. I would lose the first 10-15lbs within a couple of weeks due to my no longer power lifting and stopping the use of creatine and protein/carb shakes (needed the extra size and power for football).
After that I use to lose abotu 4-6pounds a workout but put back on about half that with rehydrating, dinner and sleeping canceled each other out.
BTW I was not fat for football but I was pretty thick with very little definition in midsection, but I was spretty ripped by the time the wrestling season ended.
P.S. my natural walk around weight in football/wrestling offseason was about 190ish.Comment

Be very careful with trying to drop too much weight!
I had a pro bout at the palace where I moved up from 147 to 154 to fight this cat. I was so strong in that bout, stopped him in the 4th. He was busted up pretty bad.
So they call me back to fight again there the next month and the opponent that I was lined with had actually ko'd me at the GG finals like 2 or 3 years earlier. I wanted the fight to redeem myself and gladly excepted. However, he wanted the fight at 140 and I negotiated a max weight of 142 in the contract.
So for that month I busted ass drying out and such to get to 142 from 154 the month before. I made the weight but man did it kill me. I ended up getting very sick the week before the fight and was sick stepping into the ring. That fight ****** for me man, I had a lung infection that I believe was caused by the weight lose. I lost a split decision in the fight although the crowd all thought that I had won.
Bottom line, dropping weight can be ok, but dropping too much weight can hurt you badly.
Fight where you feel strong. Because the mind frame of "If I fight smaller guys I will be stronger than them" is false when you weaken yourself to make the weight.
Go into the ring strong and you will have much more success then coming in drained from dropping weight.

Exactly, every year I wrestled there was a story or two about kids who have dehydrated too much and there are some serious serious consequences to doing this. If you are a college athelete go to your team doctors and get a good reading of your body fat % and hydration. I would say below 7% body fat should be monitored fairly regular. My little cousin wrestles and now High School wrestling they take body fat %, hydration % and many other things into account before they certify you for a weight. They also only allow 1.5% weight loss per week. Lossing a lot of weight is not something you should do alone.Originally posted by Rockin1Be very careful with trying to drop too much weight!
