Just because a guy has a six pack does not mean he is a healthy weight for boxing. I think increased musculature and the resulting lack of stamina in the late rounds is one of the biggest problems with heavyweight boxing. These guy are just too big to perform well in the 10th-12th rounds.
It really baffles men, man. This general misconception that "bigger is better" without even the slightest bit of consideration for the downfalls of adding muscle mass. And, yeah, I can see Wladimir at 235...he'd be lithe (think that's the right word) at that weight.

I remember Dundee, I think, talking about the different kinds of muscles that boxers have....good boxers, that is; meaning their conditioning is different from, say, a body-builder.....with a boxer, you want lean, long muscles.

Bigger is not better with boxing....it impedes fluidity more often than not; and effects stamina.

I agree that trimmer translates into better stamina, but IMO not necessarily better performance. Look no further than Chris Byrd's lack of performance against a heavier and stronger Wlad Klitschko. I think that because he was so much smaller and weighed less that his punches had nothing on them and were harmless to Wlad or any other large heavyweight fighter.

Another point I have about a fighter's weight, is that different fighters according to their body styles, hold their body weight differently. Some like George Foreman and Rid**** Bowe who were quite heavy at times, held their weight perfectly and used it to their advantage. Others like Ali, Tyson, Tua were affected by the excess weight and it lead to poor performances.

My point is that, before you guys get all crazy over his weight gain, watch tonight to see how good or bad he holds it. His weight could be intentional and could be to his advantage.

We'll all have to wait and see...

Chris is a light hitter because of his light heavyweight bone structure. He could bulk up to 250 pounds of pure mass at 5% bodyfat and he wouldn't hit as hard as Wladimir.

Foreman and Bowe could get way with putting on some weight because they were huge boned guys and in Foreman's case in his 2nd career he knew how to pace himself.

Everyone has a target weight for their frame, but few seem to be interested in staying at that weight. I can understand putting on a few pounds for a strength advantage in certain fights, but never more than ten pounds, and even that can be pushing it depending on the fighter.

That does not work for me. He is going to be a little slower tonight. If only all fighters trained like the b-hops Manny pacs and mayweathers of the world.

With all due respect, AREAL, how the heck do you know how the heavier weight will affect him? I'll wait and see how he does before condemming his weight gain and recommending that he goes to Jenny freakin Craig!
