‘UK a logical market for DAZN’, says John Skipper

Here's the article but this part stand out most to me
    .
Executive chairman says OTT service would need domestic Premier League rights to consider launch.

Executive chairman says OTT service would need domestic Premier League rights to consider launch.

“In Italy we have [Italian soccer’s] Serie A. If you have Serie A, you have a business. In Germany we have a [weekly] Bundesliga game and the Champions League and in Spain we have MotoGP, in Canada we have the NFL and the English Premier League. You don’t do this with niche sports, you will not get scale with niche sports, you get scale with first-tier rights.”

      You’re an idiot!

First of all, politics from the head hanchos in the UK whom are tie-affiliated to DAZN and Sky make it hard to cover traditional sport commodities like the Premiere League on multiple platforms. Sky and BT are solid and traditional mafia gang whom don’t want external interference with profits. Only supreme power wealth like Amazon atm could afford such rights and have the power for OTT.

It’s a logical market of course, but Skipper knows it’s not possible. Conflicts of interest. It’s the reason why Eddie Hearn has always had a comfortable seat at DAZN, the connects from his dad. Sky vs DAZN is bad greasy business in the UK.

For now, let the Spaniards enjoy the OTT from DAZN. Eventually when DAZN becomes a key player, then perhaps the rights will be more affordable and reasonable. It will be massive in due time.

This would be great news as Hearn would have to choose DAZN or Sky. And trust me Hearn NEEDS Sky. Without their immense multimedia presence it will be a hell of a lot harder for him to promote his shows. Ask Frank Warren...

Hearn doesn’t run the Premier League...lol context much?

If Sky decided to terminate boxing and allow the Hearn family the opportunity to use DAZN as its platform would be a niche forward. However, Skipper was also talking big time sports such as football.

They aren't interested in boxing, he thinks it's a niche sport in the UK. He said they won't enter the market without a top tier sport like the premier league

Which is interesting to me because boxing is supposedly bigger in the UK than it is here. Boxing is a niche sport here but they entered the market with boxing. His words don't make a lot of sense

He's right. Going back 20 years sports providers have come and gone (OnDigital, ITV Digital, Setanta, Eleven) because ultimately you can't do **** without the Premier League. It's actually something of a miracle that Boxnation has survived.

Anyway, I have my dad's DAZN subscription and a VPN to pretend I'm in Canada, so I'm OK with how things are now.

As far as I know it’s really the Americans and the Japanese (and South Koreans) whom are heavy savy on mobile technology services. UK streaming media technologies not just yet. Sports practicality still from the telly.

Then again you’ve got LDBC types saying streaming technology doesn’t make any sense.

They’ll find it very difficult to get the Prem, that’s the cash cow of any Sports programming. They wouldn’t even have a chance of getting the EPL IMO
