What if Only the Winner of these Fights Got Paid?

Let's say we take it back all the way to true prize-fighting. The guys fight and only the winner gets paid. Would we see better fights or more corruption? What would be the outcome? Post and discuss.

Both should get paid but winner should take the most , 70/30 for the winner

Yeah, that's fine, too, man. I think sports get hurt by guaranteed money. It softens things up because guys have the contract and are like, "Well? So what if I do lose? I get paid anyway."

This idea and fighting until someone gets ko'd/quits are great ideas.

We probably wouldn't see the best fighting the best as much.

Not sure if you're into team sports, but on contract year, guys put up record stats.

After that new deal is signed, they get hurt and lazy.

100 mil guaranteed plus a no trade clause.....hard to stay motivated.

Then there wont be any journeymen left anymore lol. I get why it could be more interesting, but at the same time leaves to many opportunities to exploit that system and boxing would attract fewer (elite) athletes, because they could have an easier path to money with another sport.

What happens for example in case of an (objective) robbery?

I think a KO-Bonus is a great incentive to go for it, especially for fighters on a lower pay level. They just recently used it for the MTK golden contract tournament, both walsh and wood could have played it safe, but went for the 5k KO bonus.

The KO bonus does sweeten the pot for sure. I think you would see more balls to the wall fights without question. Winner gets like 2 mil and the loser gets, say, 300k? I mean, damn. That is motivation to make something happen. I would damn sure leave it all on the field or in the ring.

I think we would see even fewer best vs best fights than today. It would be even a worse case of cherry-picking than it is today

Nice in theory, but less talent would be drawn to the sport. First time a guy loses a tough fight and doesn't get paid he likely walks away from the sport. What they should do is offer guaranteed purses but the winner takes home a bonus. Enough that it would be an incentive for each guy to give it his all.

The sport would die, literally. Losing a fight in generally cuts down how much a fighter will make in their next fight, as their stock diminishes. There would be no such thing as elite fighters because there would be no one to fight on their way to the top. People wouldn't even pick up boxing. Who's gonna train you? If you don't get paid, the trainer ain't getting paid. If you ain't getting paid, your family doesn't eat.

The idea that fights would be better because everyone would fight like their lives depended on it is true...if you make it to that point. No one's gonna make it to that point because it's not worth it. For example, Mikey Garcia would've tried a little harder against Spence if his purse was on the line. However, if his purse was on the line, the fight would never happen in the first place.
