Comments Thread For: Barrios Ready To Add Name To San Antonio's Rich Boxing History

Mario Barrios has lived to see all five NBA championships won by the San Antonio Spurs but wasn't even born the last time a boxer from his hometown held a major title in the pro ranks.

Two guys in the lower top 50 of their weight class aren't world championship material. Tyson Fury was mocked, including by Jake Donovan, for fighting a guy with a similar ranking but Barrios gets a nice fluff piece from HaymonScene.

Barrios is an up and comer getting his first crack at a secondary title.

That's much different from Fury fighting bums while being at the top of his division.

I never mocked Fury-Wallin matchup, just the unbearable overkill in hailing Fury as the "lineal" champion.

Fury was fighting in a non-title fight. There's nothing wrong with tuneups. I also don't have a problem with up and comers getting exposure and being built up, but don't just hand them a title on a silver platter. They're putting the cart before the horse. Talent doesn't even matter anymore, it's all about having the right connections.

Very Tough test for him vs Akhmedov, I wouldn't consider it a upset if Akhmedov pulls it off . His movement, particularly his ability to side step and change angles will give Barrios some serious problems

Barrios gameplan better to go to the body relentlessly
