    Comcast Inks Deal with DAZN

Comcast is the first big U.S. distribution partner for DAZN, the digital sports service headed by ex-ESPN boss John Skipper.

Comcast Adds DAZN Sports-Streaming Service to Xfinity Flex, Sets Launch on X1

DAZN, the digital sports service headed by ex-ESPN boss John Skipper, is now available to Comcast broadband customers on Xfinity Flex and will be available on Xfinity X1 this fall. It’s the first distribution deal for DAZN with a major U.S. provider since it debuted the combat-sports-oriented service in the States a year ago.

In the U.S., DAZN’s subscriptions cost $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year. The company hasn’t disclosed subscriber figures.

For Comcast, the deal with DAZN (pronounced “da-ZONE”) is part of the cable operator’s broader strategy to bring internet content to cable TV and broadband subs — so they stay in the Comcast environment, instead of switching to connected-TV platforms like Apple TV or Roku.

DAZN joins Comcast’s over-the-top lineup which include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, AMC Premiere, Acorn TV, UMC and CuriosityStream. Comcast expects to soon add Hulu, as part of its agreement granting Disney control of Hulu, as well as NBCUniversal’s Pea**** streaming service in 2020. In addition, Comcast’s X1 and Xfinity Flex also offer access to free, ad-supported services including YouTube, Tubi, Pluto TV and Xumo.

The DAZN pact comes a day after Comcast announced that it will drop the $5 monthly charge for one Flex set-top for Xfinity Internet-only customers.

“We’re thrilled to give our Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex customers access to DAZN’s live and on-demand programming starting this fall just in time for some of the most highly anticipated events in sports this year,” Daniel Spinosa, Comcast Cable’s VP of entertainment services, said in announcing the deal.

Later this year, according to the companies, DAZN content will be more deeply integrated within X1 and Flex with direct access from the sports hub and the ability for customers to call up specific programming with the Xfinity voice remote.

Upcoming events on DAZN include: Triple G vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko in the IBF middleweight world championship (Oct. 5); Bellator 232 featuring the Rory MacDonald vs. Douglas Lima welterweight championship contest (Oct. 26); Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev in the WBO light heavyweight championship; and the boxing rematch between YouTube creators KSI and Logan Paul (Nov. 9).

DAZN, backed by billionaire Len Blavatnik’s Access Industries, launched in the U.S. market in September 2018. This year, it premiered live baseball show “ChangeUp” and unveiled a docu-series, “40 Days,” which pairs celebrity executive producers with boxers to document their prep leading up to fight night. Last week, DAZN launched daily talk show from former NFL All-Pro punter Pat McAfee.

Internationally, DAZN is available in Japan, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Canada.

Is baseball still popular in Amerikur? I thought Babe Ruth was a long time ago. Are the American youth interested in DAZN baseball content?

From day 1 who has been screaming EASE OF ACCESS & customer education?

DAZN is starting to get the message. Although people are cord cutting this is still better than having people download and buy 3rd party hardware to stream to their TV.

Will come down to the structure of the deal, tbh.

If DAZN paid Comcast a fee to get onto the Xfinity streaming platform with the other OTT services (Netflix, Hulu, AMC+, FX+, etc), we'd then be having an entirely different conversation; whether DAZN succeeds or not, Comcast is still giving it's customers a one-stop shop for everything.

Nobody thought it was a big deal in that too c when ESPN plus teamed with ROKU for ease of access.

              Now look at y'all.

Everything I've predicted about DAZN has come true so far.

                Might not be.

IF...Comcrap subscribers get DAZN access at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE...then it's a brilliant move, necessary, as I said multiple months ago to dudes talking about "Streaming is the future" - no. It's not. Cable is and always will be the king. Even DAZN has to bow down and accept that. This would bring major exposure to masses that either don't have internet or don't want to pay a separate fee for something.

BUT...if all this is doing is like PlayStation Now where you still have to "subscribe" to DAZN, I question the value. You're talking bundles over $100/month and now you pay a separate something to get DAZN? That doesn't work for me, brother.

They need to figure it out, like Sky Sports, to where subscribers pay NOTHING extra for this. Figure it out.

Okay, but, when the **** is DAZN going to get more sports? I want to believe in DAZN, 'cause I want to spend 20 bucks a month to keep up with my sports, but the **** they have outside of boxing and mma is garbage.

How about just a few more sports that are not sissy ball and goal ****s?

Baseball, Soccer, Cricket? WTF? Y'all got me interested with boxing and MMA then dropped the ****in' ball.

I realize Glory is all up UFC's ass, K-1 still exists and has no US broadcastor, Kulung or whatever the **** that Chinese one is called is cool too, or Risen, whatever, figure it the **** out and bring me kickboxing. WBC Muay Thai, I don't give a ****.

It's kickboxing, it's the logical next step after MMA. It's cheap as ****. WTF's the deal?

How about some TMA? I'd watch some sissy kung fu if I could. Better than watching *******s run up and down a field after a ball.

                    Bring me Sumo ****in' 'Rasslin'.

They ain't even got to be combat sports, I'll watch the kids do backflips on their bicycles, if DAZN offered it.

presently they're a 20 dollar PPV service with a free month of BS sports. If they actually more than a few hours of content I'd stay subbed longer than the first month. They seem to think signing great boxers makes me more interested in ****ing cricket.
