Comments Thread For: Ryan Garcia: They Said I Was Scared, I'll Show What I'm Made Of

In the end, Ryan Garcia got everything he wanted, including the opponent he'd targeted all along for this date. The unbeaten lightweight prospect couldn't have enjoyed a happier ending to a tumultuous stretch, one that left him without a fight and nearly without a promoter. A mid-week pow-wow between Garcia and the team and Golden Boy Promotions led to a lucrative long-term contract extension, beginning with a Nov. 2 showdown versus Philippines' Romero Duno.

Well done on getting the deal you wanted young man, if you’re producing the money, you should take home the lion’s share. In the future, get your own promotional company and keep even more of your money

I'm not sure if he loses to Duno but he may just get his chin tested. He's a much better boxer than Duno and Duno does get tagged as he leaves himself open. Duno has a decent chin though too.

Duno may be able to test Ryan's chin especially in exchanges. We haven't seen many fighters exchange with Ryan at this point. He's fought fighters that are either overwhelmed by his speed or simply cannot counter and punch with him.

A couple of things I've seen in Ryan that are positive are that he has fast hands and he has good power. For a guy w his reach he should work his jab a whole lot more and especially double up on it. A couple of things I haven't liked so much is that he seems to throw one or two punches at a time. He seems to admire his punches, like he looks to see what effect they had right after throwing them. He doesn't tuck his chin when he's throwing and gets really uncomfortable with rough and tough fighters or whenever someone wants to fight him on the inside. We have seen what he can do in there. We haven't seen what he can do with someone who can back him up or jab with him. A lot of unknowns. This is the new social media age though. He thinks he's a ****ing star because of how many followers he has and they're all gassing him hard as hell.

We'll see. I do wish him the best and I hope he can improve because it's always good for the sport.

He does have fast hands, and he should capitalise on that. It’s clear he doesn’t pack a wallop against even fringe contender types, will have less against contenders, and none against champs....hope they are making proper adjustments to what they see coming. He’s not going to be the second coming of DLH but hopefully the first coming of himself. Proud of the lad for standing up to golden boy and getting the best deal for himself.....thankfully he has parents who wouldn’t let him be steamrolled by a slick and sinister dlh

There is something fishy going on here. Oscar clearly has plans for Ryan but not the ones that we think. With everything that has transpired, there's the possibility that GBP could be setting up Ryan for failure by having him fight Duno regardless of how inactive Ryan has been as a means to humble him and remind him of his place, that he is in no position to make demands
