It is used fairly often in the idiomatic expresssion, "take the cudgels for..." Meaning, go to the defense of, beat off criticisms on behalf of, or, sometimes, take the punishment on behalf of.

It traces its origin to the Middle English word, "cuggel", which in turn is from the Old English word, "cycgel".

In the Dictionary quoted in the earlier post it can be found right next to the word, "cuddy" and before the word, "cue".

It was "Word of the Day" on Dictionary.com on July5, 2001.

It is also in Wordnet 2.0, 2003, Princeton University.

Oh... I had the wrong impression then. That accounts for my failure to find a copy of one written by you. I have seen previous threads about your book and thought it was out in the market.

Anyway, I'm sure it will be good. Those lines in your sig (which I assume are in your book) point to the direction that it shan't be one to be easily classified as merely "fan pulp".

I'm gonna get myself a copy and I'm sure many others on BScene will too.
