Kovalev has been at 175 since 2009. Guess what division Canelo was at in 2009........

Bonus, Guess what Division GGG was fighting at in 2006...

    160
Kovalev in 2009 = 26-27 year old fully grown adult

GGG in 2006 = 24 year old mostly fully grown adult

Canelo in 2009 = 18-19 year old teenager

When Lomachenko was 18, he was still fighting at 110 lbs amateurs, equivalent to 105 pro*, which would make 135 his 9th weight class. But you still see Loma haters, and some Canelo fans (not saying the two are the same, just sometimes they overlap), saying Canelo is better than Loma. So with that I will close by saying...

        * Why is 110 amateurs equivalent to 105 in the pros? Cuz amateurs has same day weigh ins, and frequent fights, pros has day before weigh ins. If you can make 110 in the amateurs for regular fights, you can make 105, probably even 100 flat, in the pros only 2-3 times a year. 100 would make 135 in the pros Lomachenko's tenth weight class since 18 years old, not "just" nine. **** is crazy. Canelo even at 175 won't come close to that, although obviously it's harder at higher weights to scale such a high quantity. Regardless, Loma is trying to clear out his 9th/10th division since 18 years old, Canelo is just cherry picking certain guys.

Why don't you acknowledge the fact that when they were both 17 years old, Canelo fought in a higher weight class?

I wouldn't look much into it Rex. David Benevidez was fighting Cruisers and Heavy's in the amatuers.

Kovalev has atleast natural 13 lbs on Canelo. He is the bigger man no doubt.

I'm actually still confused why Canelo is going up to 175 when there are still good fights for him at 160 or 168.

Canelo will have to bulk up to compete with Kovalev. He will have to in order to be able to take a LWH punch and to hurt a LWH. The question is how will that affect his speed and endurance.

Kovalev is still an elite LHW. He has a ton of experience and nothing Canelo brings that Kovalev hasnt seen before.

I'm shocked how people just thinking Canelo going to demolish a elite LHW like that.

Yeah exactly with same day weigh ins. So what you really mean is Kovalev was a pro welterweight when he was 22 years old and moved all the way up to 175 to fight all the top guys.

Canelo was a big pro 154 at 22 years old and is just moving to 175 now, which still is not as big a jump as Kovalev made from pro equivalent 147 to 175 at the same age, plus Canelo is only doing it for one fight, Kovalev stayed at 175 and fought all comers.

Why is 160 amateurs equivalent to 147 pros? Because of what you said, same day weigh ins, and more frequent fights. If you can make 160 with same day weigh ins, and do it multiple times every few days for a tournament, then you can definitely make 147, sometimes even 140, if you have day before weigh ins and you only have to put your body through that for fights 2 or 3 times per year, instead of 2 or 3 times in a month.

Imagine Canelo at 22 years old draining to 154 three separate times for a tournament in the span of three weeks, and just imagine how poorly he would perform given that his performance suffered even just making 152 once for the Floyd fight around that same age. That means had Canelo fought amateurs at 22 years old, he would have had to fight at 160 at least, maybe 168.

But now 7 years later it's a big deal he's moving to 175, and people are criticizing Kovalev or GGG. Some people just don't know what you're talking about. We've all been there but damn, of all the fighters to misrepresent about their careers, why do it to throwback fighters like Kovalev and GGG who have brought back Boxing and generated so much excitement on HBO that streaming giants decided to get into boxing? GGG kept 160 alive for years while Canelo and many other top guys were too scared to fight threats, and Kovalev is the light heavyweight of this era, he fought or tried to fight literally every top light heavyweight of this era, literally every single one bar absolutely none, every single one, and all the fights that did happen he gave exciting performances of clean beautiful power boxing.

Boxing fans who dont give Kovalev respect as one of the signature boxers of our era, someone who provided real drama and excitement in the ring while 99% of the sport was just providing twitter beefs fighting about A-sides and money, are probably not real boxing fans.
