From what I read he is from a dagestan, from what I read the Chechnyans and Dagestanies are quite close, more of a disgruntlement towards Russia if anything.

He's a Chechen born in Dagestan (his parents lived there at the time).

About loathing... Well, where there are mountains and people living there, there will be conflicts. Because resources are scarce.
