  • Comments Thread For: Joshua's Trainer: Direct Rematch With Andy Ruiz is Right Move

Rob McCracken, the head trainer of former world champion Anthony Joshua, says a direct rematch with Andy Ruiz is the right move. Back in June, Ruiz stopped Joshua in seven rounds to capture the WBO, WBA, IBF, IBO heavyweight titles. The rematch is set for December 7 in Saudi Arabia.

So let’s say he wins his belts back, what’s next? Mandatories? Usyk for me would beat him by UD, Wilder and Fury wouldn’t fight him until they are done with each other. And I don’t believe Wilder would fight him at all. To be honest I want a new face in HW boxing, one that doesn’t bring as much money, and one that is ready to fight his rivals, if Usyk can replicate what he did at cruiserweight then he would put those guys to shame, the ones that are taking 10 years to actually fight anyone with a pulse or try to dare unify the division.

I believe Andy will suffer an accumulation of damage from outside forcing him to take chances late before he gets caught coming in.

Wilder would 100% fight Joshua, now he has been shown to be fragile. Fury would probably still duck by pricing himself out.

As for Uysk, how is he going to beat AJ when he struggled against a Tony Bellew who had literally just lost a Floyd Mayweather in weight just before their fight. All Uysk did in that fight was wait until Bellew gassed which he was always going to do given the huge weight loss. I mean whatever you say about AJ he still has the best record out of any current heavyweight - that includes Fury and Wilder who have been fighting way longer. Somehow they managed to avoid decent opponents for most of their career...

I see your point given AJ's physical attributes. But he doesn't have a piston like jab, and what jab he does have becomes lazy and pawing after a few rounds. I see Ruiz working his way in and totally flummoxing AJ again with fast combos by middle rounds. Ruiz by stoppage.

You make a good point, a really good point. It's certainly a very competitive fight and a fight I want to see.
