Active boxers who are already showing brain damage

first guy that comes to mind is brandon rios. he went down to mexico to fight umberto soto earlier in the year. he does not have a lot of brain cells left to lose.

what's scary about rios is that he used to have an iron chin, one of the very best in boxing, and that is gone. that's head trauma. he is only 33 years old.

Yeah, it’s sucks, but he’s got a ****load of money and he can educate himself. No excuse to be in your twenties, sitting on millions and be illiterate.

I was a product of an awful school system. I always had my head in a book in my twenties though, and that’s without having money.

That's the thing. Now when he's rich and doesn't need a regular job to make a living, education is most likely the last thing on his mind.

Kirkland is maybe among the worst of the guys I can think of off the top of my head.

Rios has always sounded like a dummy, but there is much more mechanics of speech issues with how he talks lately that seem problematic.

Part of getting okay'd to fight probably should be taping some short interview with boxers & then looking back on their speech periodically in those interviews to notice speech changes over the years. Thats definitely a underappreciated but obvious sign of the damage ones brain has likely taken in the ring during their career.

The problem with it would be where is the line drawn when ones speech has drifted off course enough to deny one a boxing licence for their own safety? Idk that you could draw one very well & you'd likely need to use it along with something or several other factors that are monitored that do have numbers on them.

I was always good at vocab & I still try to learn new words even today, but mfer, f#ck & sh^t, among other less "acceptable" words, just sound like music to my ears.
