What is “old” vs “very old” vs not prime?

So Martinez was 39 losing to Cotto... does the win count at all?

Here we got a poster saying Cotto was “old,” isn’t a significant win for Canelo. Personally, I think Canelo went easy on Cotto out of respect,

    But

Does Floyd’s win over Manny count since PAC was 36?

Does Pac’s win over Marquez III count since the Mexican was 38?

What the maximum allowable cut off age to credit a fighter?

Damn. One poster says something negative about your boyfriend and you have to start a thread about it. Martinez was shot when Cotto beat him at a catchweight. The win counts but he caught Martinez at the perfect time. Cotto was a very weak middleweight champ and never once fought at the full 160 pound standard weight limit. Canelo fought him at another catchweight of 155. Cotto wasn't prime but he was still good so Canelo's win over Cotto does count as a decent win. Your statement that Canelo went easy on Cotto out of respect is laughable BS. Only you would say something that ******. Canelo went after Cotto with everyhing he had and if he could have knocked him out he would have done so. There is no age limit for a win counting or not counting because each fighter could be washed or not washed up at different ages.

Age is one factor to consider when you try to determine how "good" a win, but you also have to consider how many "wars" the fighter been in.
Cotto was 35 when he lost to Alvarez. Which is old for most fighters.
But more important he had absorbed bad beatings from Margarito and Pac, who had both stopped him and Floyd who had just missed stopping him.
Cotto was a shot fighter when he fought Alvarez, and the only reason he held the MW title was real clever matchmaking.

But Pacquaio been through more wars than PAC and the one KO from Marquez could equal an accumulation of 20 blows. Depends on how the brain is rattled in that instance. So Floyd doesn’t get credit for beating a war torn 36 year old PAC?

They all count but when there is a big age disparity and one fighter is in his prime it definately detracts from the win. Go watch the Larry Holmes Micheal Spinks fights. I am a big fan of Micheal. But do you honestly believe Spinks would beat Holmes if Holmes was in his prime. I don't. It was an historic win and an achievement but it wasn't prime Holmes in there. Yeah all wins count but you can't look at an aging fighter and see the younger version in your mind's eye when he climbs into the ring. That's why younger fighters often target older aging champions.
