    Ike Quartey Is Coming Back!

This not a joke, this time, the comeback rumors of Ike Quartey are for real. Ghanaweb.com is reporting that former WBA welterweight champion Ike “Bazooka” Quartey, will be make a return to the ring in December, over three years since his last ring appearance against Fernando Vargas. Here is a fighter that I must say left way too early, he still had plenty of good fights left in the tank. Ike Quartey is apparently not coming back at the welterweight level or junior middleweight, Ike plans to campaign at the middleweight level of 160 pounds.

Ike is looking for big fights against the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya. Quartey will have a tuneup bout in Ghana to get rid of some of the ring rust in December and will look to much bigger fights after that. Quartey left Ghana on Sunday to travel to the United States for negotiations with his new US promoter, Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment.

Rematch with Oscar, yes, should be exciting. The first time they met was in Feb 1999 for the WBC Welter belt. They exchanged knockdowns in the 6th. Quartey went down one more time in the 12th. But the decision was SPLIT! With that win, Oscar went 30-0.

Quartey has only 2 losses (De la Hoya and Fernando Vargas) and was held to a draw only once(Jose Luis Lopez)

Quartey has been inactive for 4 years though. His last fight was vs. Vargas in Vegas for the IBF Light Middle title. Though Vargas was penalized for low blows, Quartey lost by UD.

He'll be turning 35 on Nov. 27. Not much time, unless he's Hopkins' twin!
