Boxing apps are about to become the norm

There’s debate here all the time about how Network/Cable/Premium television is better for boxing than apps.

I’m here to let you know first that we’re heading towards an app only world.

Obviously there’s DAZN, which has some of the biggest stars in boxing and is only available as an app.

It now seems ESPN+ is the place to be for top rank boxing on ESPN. It seems most of their big names fight on that platform and not on regular ESPN. I think ESPN has also only done one PPV and it was available for purchase online.

Showtime can also be purchased as an app without having a cable subscription. It’s my understanding Showtime PPV can be purchased through the app as well although I’ve never tried it.

That leaves Fox and the Fox Sports Networks. All of their PPVs are available online. Fox is also free over antenna television.

I should also point out that the only two platforms that aren’t free or available as stand alone services, ESPN and FS1, are available on television streaming apps.

I have a feeling we’re going to look back and laugh at how we questioned whether or not DAZN could pull this off.

(I guess I should mention that UFC Fight Pass is an app too lol)

Streaming via any means available app or w/e comes next will be the norm.

Its not just a boxing thing. Its a visual entertainment thing.

Very true. Cable used to be a 'must-have'. Now, more than half the people I know have cancelled cable and stream on their TV.

I think on the go sort of viewing is something that a lot of people like, I don’t mind sitting in front of a TV and watching a fight, but I like the option of being able to watch my football, boxing or any sport where ever am at. My BT sport app, and other live sport Apps gives me those options.

Showtime, I believe, added that you can digitally by the fight on the app from the Mayweather-McGregor fight (UFC has had that for a while).

Still, as it's been said by some folks here I hope, sporting apps will be a supplement to the traditional platforms; no different than Target giving folks the option to buy stuff in store, buy stuff online for pickup, or buy stuff online for delivery, as long as you're using Target, target doesn't care.

Showtime has offered access to the live Showtime channel and the full content library since I believe Showtime/CBS signed the deal with Floyd; 3m people have the Showtime app and cover the fee every month (initially boxing/sports led the push, but now you see more of the dramas being used to sell the app).

Whether you're watching the lineal channel or the digital app, or enjoying content on the official social media sites, Showtime/CBS is seeing money on all of it (social media is whatever, but multi-million views on a video does have a dollar figure somewhere).

The name of the game, in terms of content anyway, is reaching folks wherever they are at; at home, on the job, at the office, in transit, at the park, wherever.

Apps expand the reach, but you're not getting there with just apps

Not really. The biggest boxing star Canelo could only get 1.2 million people to watch him on DAZN globally

Hurd-Williams, Charlo-Korobov, Charlo-Kota, Plant-Uzcategui all got more views being aired on FOX in just the United States.

Accessibility is everything..being able to share the big fight up on my roof deck with a projector connected to my phone..going over to someone's house with your account, etc. It's why I fcks with IPTV the way I do. I can do all of this shh for all them platforms for one price.

Buddy i think you missed the point No one is arguing that the internet isn't the future, they argue about what works at the present moment.

This is like early youtubers laughing about youtube viability because pewdiepie got rich as ****. yeah...eventually youtube became a viable platform that was worth a **** to big dogs like Disney.

Speaking of Disney do you really believe the owner of 60% of world media didn't realize before now Netflix makes money? Of course they did, they let Netflix do all the grunt work then they will swoop in with their IPs and take a huge chunk of Netflix's space.

Streaming replacing cable isn't anything anyone is unaware of, but, when means quite a lot to profits. As long as TV is more profitable, which it is, the internet is still it's goofy, gangley, off-spring.

DAZN may pull through....DAZN may also go the route of many other flash-in-the-pan sub based stream services that started up too early.

Boxing apps will not be the future.

ESPN+ is not a boxing app. It has tons of other sports.

Showtime’s app is not just for boxing but for all their shows and content.

If dazn USA doesn’t get any major sports leagues rights agreements it will die in America. If it’s a boxing-only app it is already on life support and just waiting for the plug to be pulled.

The difference between boxing and other sports is Apps aren't the ONLY place available for NFL-NBA-Soccer-MLB-etc.
The only place to see SOME boxing is on ESPN+, DAZN and UFC Fight Pass.
You can watch the NFL on an App. But you can also watch it the old fashion way on Fox, CBS, NBC, ESPN and NFL Network.
You can ONLY watch Canelo and GGG on an App.
