Ruiz Jr is American. He was born and raised in the United States. He's just emphasizing his Mexican side because he thinks it will attract more fans.
The funny thing is that boxing really isn't that big in Mexico. Boxing is far more popular among Mexicans in the US than it is among Mexicans in Mexico.Comment

They refer to themselves as "Irish" whilst never stepping foot in Ireland or "Italian" when if they ever went to Italy, they would be more out of place than a penguin in the jungle and couldn't understand a word that was spoken to them.
At least as a "Mexican" he has probably visited Mexico at times.
Also, after winning he bought a Rolls Royce, so he spent a lot of money on British products which makes me happy.Comment

"With hispanics or latinos, I forgot what the difference was." There is much confusion and controversy around these terms, but this might help. The term Hispanic was first introduced in an official way in the U.S. during in the 1970 census during the Nixon Administration to identify people of Latin American ancestry. This term is used in the United States. People living in Latin America refer to themselves as Latinos. More broadly, the term Latin or Latino also refers to Europeans from countries that speak a Romance (Latin language) such as Spain, Italy, and Portugal.Comment
