well, at 37 GGG looks better than kovalev at 36. simple. also, we know a fight between them will be competitive. they are both in the same weight class. whereas canelo will try to drain kovalev to have an advantage since they are not in the same wieght class.
Why are posters calling Kovalev old but demanded a 3rd GGG fight?

I am a fan of GGG and would love a third fight between him and Canelo but I long ago forgot about that idea. Canelo is never going to fight him again and it matters not if GGG is a champion. GGG said he has moved on from wishing for that third fight with Canelo and will move on to other good fights. If he beats Dervy he wants to go to Japan to fight Murata. GGG has 5 fights left before retirement and none of them will be with Canelo. Yes GGG is 37 but he has aged very well. Most neutral fans think he should be undefeated and deserved to win every fight he ever had. He has never been down or hurt much or in trouble in any fight. GGG is not as good as he was 8 or 10 years ago but he has not declined very much. Kovalev is a year younger than GGG but he is clearly way past prime and almost shot. He struggled beating Yarde and the prime Kovalev would not have had any problem quickly knocking out a guy like Yarde. Kovalev has become easy to hurt and a somewhat fragile champion. Canelo sees this and has targeted Kovalev only. Canelo knows if he fights GGG again he gets another 12 round war. He thinks he can beat Kovalev much easier. Canelo made it clear that Kovalev is the only light heavyweight he will fight. I would rather Canelo had fought Dervy or Andrade. If he cannot make 160 comfortably anymore then he should give up his middleweight titles. I don't like the way Canelo moves up weight classes by fighting the weakest champion like Fielding and now Kovalev. He has much unfinished business at 160 and better he should fight Andrade or Jermall. If he is going to move up then fight the best champ at the weight and then fight the other champs at that weight. Canelo is a 4 to 1 favorite to beat Kovalev so it's not this incredibly risky fight for him some are saying. Kovalev is at the end of the line and ready to be beaten by a good fighter and Canelo knows it. If Canelo beats Kovalev will he then fight the other young champs like Bivol and Beterbiev. If not then what was the point of going to 175? Just to say he is a many weight champion? I would be more impressed by a boxer really cleaning out one weight class than jumping up weight classes to beat the weaker champs.Comment

Some guys just age better than others and GGG is one of those slow aging boxers like Hopkins, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Jersey Joe Walcott etc. GGG is far more rugged and has never been knocked down or hurt in his career. Kovalev is somewhat fragile especially to the body. He has been dropped many times and took a beating and a ko loss just two fights ago. GGG is a more dedicated boxer than Kovalev and takes better care of himself from all accounts. There are reasons Canelo is gunning for Kovalev only.Comment

Yup.
Some guys fade in their 20's. There really is no constant. Should be obvious, shouldn't it?Comment

How many times has GGG been ko'd/tko'd again?
How many times have you heard about GGG not being professional and on his way out (like Jackson said recently).
GGG might be older but he is also more professional and has far more in the tank. Canelo is yet to outright beat GGG either but let's ignore all this...Comment

I think the 1st two super close fights warrant a 3rd fight regardless of GGG's age.
F#ck Andrade doe. Lets get Mall in there if we going with a non-old guy. Andrade is an L waiting to happen.Comment

I thought this is obvious, I worry for this sport when questions like this gets asked, I know this is a boxing forum any all but you would expect this sort of question from newbies/casuals.Comment
