Is GGG much better than Kovalev?

I seen people say Canelo murders Kov. But lets not forget in the second fight Canlo might have been walking forward but that didn't stop GGG from still having success while boxing canelos ears off with the jab. Nice uppercuts too.

So a bigger Kov cant replicate this?

He is definitely more durable it seems but he isnt trading fists with LHWs either. Id say Golovkin is a better fighter all around but not by a lot.

No it's just a style contrast. GGG has better balance therefor making him sturdy, he's very strong with his stance and footwork positioning and can shoot out hooks well. Keep you off balance inside and outside because he leans and as much as other don't like to say it, has a lot of good defensive skills.

But Kovalev just has a different style. He can utilize a jab for 12 rounds and keep you at the end of him unless you're as good as Ward and can adapt a bit. And he has so much craft with a jab that it's pretty much impossible for 95% of boxers to solve that riddle. And he'll break you down. Doesn't need to do a lot more than that. Doesn't need to have defensive prowess or great footwork because as I said he'll keep you at the end of him if he wants.

I think in terms of results, they are about the same, both really damn good.

GGG is very rugged and has never been down or hurt much ever in his career and he has fought some good punchers. Kovalev is bigger and stronger than GGG but he can't take a punch as well as GGG. I don't think Kovalev is this easy fight for Canelo. Canelo has to deal with Kovalev's reach, his great jab and his big power. Also there is a workrate difference. Canelo only threw 400 punches at Jacobs in 12 rounds. Kovalev threw 680 punches at Yarde in less than 11 rounds. Canelo will never fight GGG again so it doesn't matter but I think a third fight would be about even on neutral ground. I think Kovalev has a shot to beat Canelo but he must ether win 8 or 9 rounds or score a KO. If the fight is close at all Canelo wins.

Golovkin took better care of himself. Kovalev is on the fast track down with how he mistreated his body. Mcgirt also has him throwing lots of pitter patter filler shots. Those also tire you out, Kovalev needs to take more risks. He would have ended Yarde by the halfway point if he didn’t wait till after being hurt to decide to now earn some respect. If you are going to pitter patter you need legs, not to be lazing around lethargically.

I agree with you about McGirt but I think they are ironing the wrinkles out. When to throw for scoring shots and when to throw with power, etc. I think McGirt has saved Kovalev's career personally. Im looking forward to his next fight to see if he can teach an old dog new tricks.

No one mentions the fact that Kov and GGG have spared together in the past also. If you don't think GGG won't give inside tips he will.

I'd say so he would look at the Ward fight and now the Yarde one who hurt him to the body in the only round he decided to actually go after it. Canelo would be relentless to the body and have the experience to stop Kovalev, who I don't think gets by Yarde in a rematch either. Hes a real good fighter when hes on point but these types of aggressive body punchers with speed do him in almost always,...

I would guess the odds are much slimmer if this rematch happened, everyone made it out like Yarde never boxed and he almost had Kovalevs corner throw in the towel.

I always loved that right hand that they slowed down at 1:10. The second half of the fight was so much better than the first for Golovkin.

Yeah in both fights those early rounds were fairly even with Canelo's speed enabling him to land some flashy combos to counteract GGG's constant scoring...but once the fight heats up in the late middle rounds that's where an old GGG is at his best since he is finally warmed up...and Canelo tends to get the stamina issues after the early rounds...my 2 cents anyway
