I was impressed with Yarde here. I thought Kov would win within 5-7 rounds easily. Was a pretty good fight.

Yarde did the right thing taking this fight - he will learn more from this than any of his other fights against nobodies. A lot of young fighters think all they need is power and fitness and they can just power through anyone. You can tell them that's not true - but they never truly believe until they get shown otherwise.

Good post man I more or less agree with ya...I think Yarde punched himself out with trying to get the KO in the 8th...he had nothing left after that...those muscles don't do well stamina wise later in fights...and he had no experience of being that late in a fight...if he takes it well it should be invaluable experience for him...he looked impressive to me, rather than Kova looking that bad.

Yeah he really seemed pretty comfortable in there...much more so than I was expecting...he can actually box pretty well, and is not just a body-builder type.

Maybe that bulky type of physique is good for giving body shots?...but maybe not for having a great jab...seems like most guys who I've seen with a great jab just have a long lean live arm.

Great fight though and this fight should be great experience for him...and great confidence for Kov...he had to go through some hell to win it.

Example today the only time Yarde had success was going to the body and then open up upstairs
Imo , Kovi does not like body shots but much less resistance from power shots to the head
Canelo will smell blood early on and take him out early
Man...it is so hard to get to the body against anyone early...especially a big puncher with a nice jab like Kovalev...very dangerous to go the body early against him

Guy almost beat the guy who a lot of people on this site had beating Ward & he's finished now. That seems an extreme take.

I think he's just getting started.

I wouldn't disagree he's never likely to be the #1 guy in the division, but he's got a solid top ten caliber guy future I feel like & he could still win a belt eventually. Granted I don't think I'd pick him over any of the other 3 title holders, but I'm sure there'll be weaker links over time & I suspect he'll improve more off of this L than he did off of all his previous W's so who knows where his future leads.

I think most people have a more positive opinion after this L by Yarde then had in his previous dozen & change W's.

I think you are overall right, but I don't believe today is a great example of that. Yarde will be back. He's gonna be a top ten guy for a nice period of his career & maybe title holder one day.
