I’ve come to realize that DAZN is trying to be a boxing fan’s best friend.
I’ve been very critical of them this year, even saying I was going to cancel (I didn’t lol).
The cards have been crappy this year (everyone has been bad though) but seeing reports I’ve come to realize that they’re the only network/app working to make super fights. They’re overpaying fighters to make it happen, they’re willing to compete with networks on money and they want to allow us to watch for $10 a month.
They tried harder than anyone to make Wilder-Joshua, Canelo-Kovalev and GGG 3 are coming because of them, they’re pushing harder than anyone for Davis-Farmer, they made Hooker-Ramírez happen.
They clearly want super fights, they’re willing to pay outrageous rates to get them and they want us to watch for $100 a year. Not bad.
ESPN wants us to pay for cable and an app, plus PPV for boxing. ESPN hasn’t had many big fights either, it doesn’t seem like a big priority.
If you want to watch PBC fighters you need a fox/FSN/Showtime combination which means a cable bill plus an extra cable package and PPV. And every decent PBC fight is on PPV. The closest thing they’ve had to a big fight in recent memory is Wilder-Fury and it seems like too many of their fighters just defend a single title when mandatories are called.
I think I’ve become a DAZN fan boy.
