I think the time zone would be the biggest hurdle really. If a fight was on at midnight SA time, that would be 2pm Los Angeles, 5pm NY, 10pm London. Maybe it would be on at 1am SA time which would improve it slightly.
I mean what is a normal live gate, $10M is really good right? If SA is really paying $40M for Joshua v Ruiz then you compare that to what you lose in either US or UK rights as opposed to it being prime time.
So I can see it working especially for fights with boxers from different markets, i.e. not two US fighters.
Where I'm from the fights are generally 2pm Sunday because of the time zone difference, and personally I don't mind that, or am used to it at least.
Anyway the maths is simple, if the increased gate makes up for the lose in broadcasting fees, people will go there, money talks.
If Wilder or Fury had a fight lined up with an opponent signed to a flat fee and got offered a $40M site fee, you damn well better believe they would take it, its more then they have made in their careers, its a no brainer.
Thats the only way it will happen though, massive site fees.
