Kovalev is not nearly as washed up as people think. His last performance was great and he was also beating Alvarez handily before the stoppage in their first fight. Yarde is not Alvarez, either. Kovalev is levels above Yarde (and this is coming from a Brit).

The only fight I envision here is Kovalev boxing Yarde's head off at range, demoralising him and breaking him down or just outright KOing him because we know Kovalev packs a heavy punch.

The first ward fight is debatle could have gone to kovalov but kov ran out of steam and let ward win the 2nd half of that fight poor stamina. The 2nd fight kov cried complained each time he was bullied to the body. Cried lile no other fighter I have seen. Ward found a weak spot and pummeled on him. Clear clear loss. Yarde has to bully kovolov. Punch with him....kovolov gameplan crumbles once he feels he's being bullied around. He starts crying to the ref. Now for kovolov to win he needs to stop being so mentality weak stay sharp and strong to the gameplan.......leave the vodka and antics alone. Focus on ure boxing. That simple......kovalov drunk crazy after that ward 1st fight and all fans made excuses for him which got him knocked out in their 2nd fight. Now u same fans are doing the same against yarde. 🤣

It's too bad that Sergei will never really get the credit that I thought he deserved in outboxing Ward in the first fight - no small feat to be win in that way and keep it as "clean" as he did. And he got knocked out in a big way against Alvarez - to come back and avenge is also downplayed I think.

Anyway, he got back to fighting at that range with his jab in the Alvarez rematch, but I always have to add the caveat that Alvarez must have fought one of the ******est fights I've ever seen in a rematch. It was confirmed by his post fight comments saying he was only looking for a big punch when that is not his style and it's not really what allowed him to pull off the win the first time.

Kov did look physically healthier to me (ie he wasn't getting his head violently snapped back by jabs in the first round like in the first fight)...but later on in the rematch, I didn't like how he reacted to the punches he took in the mid-to-late rounds - I thought that he had barely taken any punishment up until that point, but the reaction he was having didnt seem to fit that idea.

We'll see what ppl are saying after this Yarde fight.

Maybe there's a reason why Alvarez was hesitant the 2nd time? He felt Kova's punches in the first fight, and even though he managed to catch him, he felt the power of every blow. Kovalev was smarter in the 2nd fight, and having tasted the punches, Alvarez remained hesitant all throughout. Even Andre Ward retired after fighting Kovalev. Yarde might catch Kovalev with a good punch, but Kovalev can also catch him, and every single punch from Kovalev likely hurts a lot.

no doubts but alvarez did show a great chin. will see how yarde reacts at his power, sergey's been tested, yarde hasn't. it'll be an interesting fight

Yup. That and the Gvozdyk-Beterviev bout in October should offer us a boxing treat.

Any news on Eleider Alverez's next fight? Been silent since.

I only hope this Yarde guy is not on roids. I don't care if Kov loses a clean fight, but I hope those muscles are natural.

Kovalev didn't outbox Ward in the first fight but he did box well for the first six rounds. Once the body attacks started taking its toll, the fight changed in Ward's favor.

Kovalev is a good boxer and has much greater experience so he should be favored in this fight.

You’re right that Kov will stop him...if it doesn’t go the distance...

He dropped ward and outboxed him the whole fight...
