AJ will at least be getting extra financial benefit for fighting there. If Ruiz is bound to his rematch contract then he gets all the inconvenience but none of the extra money. So it’s the ultimate carpet bagging. It’s a way to totally maximize/abuse these ridiculous rematch clauses. AJ gets incentive to fight there Ruiz gets none. This looks corny for boxing. If u pick the terms of the first fight then get whooped it’s not a good look to demand u get terms on the rematch, contracts be damned. Even ur girlfriend would scratch her head ask what’s up with that?
That's what it is, I mean Ruiz I don't believe has the cards stacked in his favor in terms of the language of the contracts plus it's his first time dealing with this level of contract. He talked a lot about having final say and A-side (A term I absolutely loathe among fighters and even worse among fight "fans") but he comes out with the cards in his favor should he win, he will likely never again have to answer to any one's demands should he retain the belts, even Wilder has to agree to Ruiz's terms to make a fight should he have those belts. Your commitment to honor the wishes of a promoter aren't fulfilled until they elect to drop the rematch clause and move on or you win the rematch. That's not just in boxing but in life too. Sucks for the kid but he'll be alright, I think he sticks to AJ's chest and throws bombs and he'll win the rematch. He fights at a distance..he loses.
