So, what’s up with Briggs and Oquendo?

Back in March, Shannon Briggs announced he would fight in June. Then nothing. I expect to see him back sometime because he doesn’t shut up about it.

Also, the last we heard of Oquendo, he left a contract with Manuel Charr unsigned after a multi-year battle with the WBA. It’s hard to imagine after all that he just decided to walk away from his “title” shot.

Does anyone know anything I might have missed?

Funny i was thinking of oquendo the other day. Last post I saw on YouTube from him he was referencing his long battle and how he was just waiting to get his chance. I'd like an update

I’m honestly surprised the reporting ended with an unsigned contract. It seems a reporter would just have to contact his manager and we’d have an answer. He didn’t announce he was retiring so I would expect he has something planned.

I’m not sure there is a commission in the world that would sanction Briggs. I believe he would have to pass brain scans and I don’t think he can do that.

Oquendo is suing to get the purse from the Charr fight, supposed to be going to court this month over it.

He didn't sign the contract to fight Charr once they unsuspended him because he believed he should have been paid the 300k in escrow before they started negotiating again.

When the Charr-Oquendo bout didn’t come together, the WBA then ordered Charr to face interim champion Trevor Bryan.

At this point, Oquendo has lost five years of his boxing career and he wants the whole matter resolved. “I want my $325,000 escrow funds and to be declared champion by challenger’s default because of drug use which caused me and my boxing career irreparable damages,” he said.

However, Oquendo says he’s fit to fight for the title if asked to do so, having very recently passed a physical exam administered by the Illinois Boxing Commission certifying that he “is in good physical condition and is medically cleared to be licensed as a competitor in professional boxing.” His weight was 243.4 pounds.

When asked if talking to the press might jeopardize his case, Fres told us, “My attorney said the public needs to know about the injustices in the boxing industry.”

As far as the WBA and he are concerned they satisfied what they owed him. It's Charr who owes him now.
