Canelo’s potential opponents are all worth avoiding

Sergey Kovalev is tied up in a fight later this year. It’s likely GGG and Derevyanchenko will fight each other.

We know Canelo won’t be fighting Charlo because the WBC says he doesn’t have too and there’s promotional issues.

We know he won’t be fighting Caleb Plant and David Benavidez because of those same promotional issues. Benavidez also has a fight coming up.

We know it won’t Oleksander Gvyzdok or Beterbiev because they’re fighting each other next.

Murata and Brant are probably fighting each other again later this year.

The next in line in the WBA rankings, who isn’t GGG, is Jeff Horn and he has a fight coming up.

So that leaves Demetrius Andrade (who says he hasn’t been contacted), Callum Smith (said he didn’t expect to fight Canelo next and De La Hoya confirmed as much in a twitter war with Eddie Hearn), Bivol and Billy Joe Saunders (maybe signing with DAZN? Definitely has a new promoter coming).

All of these are dangerous fights that won’t capture the public’s imagination at all. Maybe the Canelo vs. the British angle sells again but I think that’s a better idea for Canelo when he’s fighting someone who can’t beat him. I think those fights generate the same interest as Liam Smith and Amir Khan with way more risk. Andrade would be an easy sell if he wasn’t so boring to watch. And Bivol is way too unknown for the risk he brings.

So who’s Canelo going to fight? I’m going to bet on David Lemieux. The big puncher angle sells more than anything else anyone on the list has to offer and he’s a safe fight.

I Known DAZN would have to approve but at this point there’s not a lot of options and they did approve Sergey Derevenchenko.

    Leave Canelo be.
The diva's back in Mexico, enjoying his time off from VADA (and GGG).

I think Andrade is the move now...assuming something wild don't happen like Canelo sues Golden Boy or there is issues with Canelo/Golden Boy/DAZN that really wreck sh^t.

Andrade gots a belt. He's an easy win for Canelo. Its not likely to be a fun fight, but I give Canelo a good chance on a KO in this one so it'll be not the most entertaining fight til Andrade gets stopped.

Or if things take longer to figure out see what happens with Kovalev vs Yarde & if Kovalev wins thats still a good name on his resume & another weight division belt on his mantle so that enhances his legacy.

if you want a rather safe fight with somewhat name value, he could also face chris eubank jr.. That dude should be free to schedule a fight and Canelo could unify his regular WBA belt with eubanks highly prestigious IBO belt lol.

Canelo is waiting to see if kovalev beats yarde later this month. If he does then it's him v canelo in December.

Canelo ain't fighting anybody besides Kovalev, assuming he wins. Such a **** move. Soo many other fights to pick, yet he's dead set on him.
