Isn't that the way it's always been?

I don’t like it either, if a referee is being clearly negligent then it’s fair enough, but in the case of Abdusalamov I wouldn’t say Esteves was being clearly negligent or is culpable whatsoever. We’ve all seen fighters look far worse in fights and be relatively fine after the fight.

The ref doesnt know whats going on inside a fighters body or any predisposed disorders, he is not a doctor he doesn't know the fighter on a personal level so all his decisions is a guestiment in the moment, unless he was proven negligent as in being on drugs or alcohol at the time etc.

The way they all could make it work is do it like a pool of money when people play cards in the casino, if it's a ppv .25 cents from each buy could go to special insurance policy, referee could have a special policy that he has to pay too, and same for promoters and the boxers, and TV companies, that way they could make money when there is no accidents and lose a little bit when someone dies but they dont put the boxers family through a hardship.

            ******.

The fighter can quit at any time. His corner can throw in the towel at any time. The doctor can stop the fight at any time. Can't hold the ref responsible unless he was impaired due to a medical issue he lied about or impaired by alcohol/drugs.

I think their job should be at stake but putting him on the line for a lawsuit will be the death of the sport. UK stoppages world-wide.

Ringside doctors should be liable though. They job is to specifically determine a fighter's health. A ref refers to a doc for the medical stuff.

This is just overreach imo, the ref isnt a doctor nor did any of his decision were based on malice. Leave the man Benji Esteves alone.
