Comments Thread For: Callum Smith's Coach Embraces Billy Joe Saunders Showdown

Joe Gallagher, trainer and manager of WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith, would love to finalize a unification with WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders. Saunders recently parted ways with longtime promoter Frank Warren. There are rumors that he could sign a deal with Warren's main rival, Eddie Hearn, who also promotes Smith.

Smith's team said he'd have a big fight this year. Bivol's name was even mentioned by Smith. Now they're talking not until 2020 and not vs Bivol, but only vs Saunders?

When are they going to fight Bivol? Hell, do it at 175 in the fall, even if Smith loses he keeps his 168 title, then he can still unify with Saunders in 2020. But ffs someone fight Bivol in 2019 we've been waiting all year (and last year...)

        Joe 'The tracksuit' Gallagher.

Type of guy that will come over when your dad is hard at work during the day, phuck your mum and steal her ciggies on his way out the door.

        Tell me I'm wrong.

Saunders is a runner like N'dam. Though very skillful defensively, Smith should catch him and KO him.

I like this match-up for both guys, but, alas it will never happen. Somehow, some way, BJS will screw it all up a week before the fight. Smith's folks need to prepare for this likelihood if they sign for that fight.

Agreed. He'll land plenty more than one clean shot before he KO's him. TBH, BJS will spoil the whole fight when he gets arrested days before for egging cars or something.

There’s other belts and good fights in the weight class, why should he call out the heavier fighters?

Why didn't they take the fight when it was offered? Because BJS was on the wrong side of the street?
