Comments Thread For: Arum: Frampton Would Get a Quicker Title Shot If He Moves Up

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, who promotes former two division world champion Carl Frampton, says the boxer has a quicker path to a world title if he decides to move up in weight to the super featherweight limit of 130-pounds.

If you ask me Frampton's probably already moved up one too many times. He's definitely on the downward slope at the minute, if I were him I wouldn't risk accelerating that by moving up in weight again.

Frampton might get used for name recognition but he isn't winning a title at 130.

Not sure if the problem is with Frampton's body or mind, but he is definitely looking like used goods in the ring since his rematch with Santa Cruz.

This is that BS i be talking about. Bob letting these fighters duck Stevenson. How Stevenson gonna become a bigger name if Bob won't let him fight the bigger names?

Frampton was on course to challenge Oscar Valdez for the WBO featherweight title.

But then Valdez announced that he was vacating the title and moving up to super featherweight.

Now Shakur Stevenson and Joet Gonzalez will collide for the vacant WBO belt.

Stevenson is also promoted by Top Rank, but Arum does not like the idea of matching Frampton against him.

"We can make a fight for Carl at featherweight," said Arum.

"(But) I don't think at this stage that Frampton does well with Shakur. Shakur is an amazing talent who will probably end up to be a welterweight."

I think 130 is too far. He’s a small guy and i don’t even think he carried much power up to 126 as it is.

Just imagine what Terence Crawford's career would be like had he beaten Manny Pacquiao?

I like Carl as a man and fighter but I don’t see him moving up fighting me, I thought the guys at 126 were too big, even though he got the win over Leo.

Frampton was getting bullied some by Warrington, no way could he hang with the big boys at 130. That is just unrealistic. Remember when he moved up to 126 and some thought he was pushing it a bit too far? Yeah, different beast at 130.

Arum is saying he could get him a title shot against Berchelt/Valdez winner next or against you?

I definitely hear where you’re coming from. I thought he reached his ceiling at 126 but the article is basically saying if he wants to fight Valdez it’ll be at 130 with NO title on the line but if he wants to fight for a title they can easily match him up against me. 2020 is going to be a wild year...
