  • Comments Thread For: Arreola: Joshua Can't Fight On The Inside; Ruiz Will Win Again

NEW YORK Whenever and wherever their rematch takes place, Chris Arreola expects Andy Ruiz Jr. to beat Anthony Joshua again. Based on what he witnessed June 1, Arreola doesn't think Joshua has the skill set to win back the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles from his fellow Mexican-American heavyweight.

He don’t need to fight on the inside of he gets a ref that as soon as Ruiz breathes on him is breaking up action

Andy Ruiz is a great fighter. I’m 100% sure that he’s going to give Joshua hell again in the rematch especially because he’ll be in better shape

Euros historically don't know how to fight on the inside. That's nothing new.

Back in 1913 George Carpentier wrote a book called "My Methods or Boxing as a Fine Art." And in it he gives credit to the American style for bringing the innovation of in-fighting to the sport.

Can't give enough credit to Ruiz for the win, as he was supposed to be a pushover that would keep the Wilder/Joshua train rolling for another few months. I honestly feel like Joshua felt that way too, even with all of his obvious flaws. The rematch should feature a version of Joshua that understands that Ruiz isn't going to lay down, even if Joshua isn't going to improve much skill-wise. If he's in trouble, I'd like to see some dog come out of him. He gave the first one up as soon as he felt pressure, and that was disappointing.

I guess Joshua will fight Wladimir Klitschko`s way in a rematch. Jab jab, distance, if opponent moves closer just grab him. There is zero reason for fighting inside when opponent has obviously faster hands.

The problem with Anthony Joshua is that he cannot fight at long range, on the outside or off the back foot because when he does, he expends a lot of energy and stamina doing so.

AJ throws nice uppercuts and body punches while fighting on the inside and fighting off the front foot. However, when he is fighting off the back foot, he is either tired, hurt or looking for a second wind.
Negative. Every time he has had success, it's at range. Arreola is saying what I said for years. Joshua can't generate power at different ranges. That's critical to be able to keep the other guy off.

I agree. AJ is at his best in the center of the ring at mid range while fighting off the front foot and backing his opponents up. However, sticking and moving while fighting off the back foot is his detriment. He would used up too much of his stamina and energy fighting that way.

No, I didn't call the upset, but I've been touting Ruiz's skills for lots of years! I hope he wins again!

AJ left the ring terrified of ruiz, so scared he literally quit.

I just can't see him getting in the ring with Ruiz again. He's not going to suddenly turn into an elite level boxer over night.
