Everything points to Kovalev being priority one for Canelo

GBP is continuing negotiations with Kovalev’s team while the negotiations with SD started more recently.

The potential date of the proposed Kovalev fight is before the proposed timeline for the SD fight, leaving less time for it to get done.

We know Kovalev is an opponent DAZN has approved. All we know about SD is that DAZN would push for Canelo to commit to GGG 3 if he goes the IBF mandatory route.

There’s been rumors of Canelo moving up in weight for good (and potentially leaving GGG and 160 behind) and a Kovalev fight fits that narrative. We know Canelo doesn’t want to fight GGG again and DAZN is pushing it. A move up in weight would be a great reason to not fight GGG again.

At the very least, the Kovalev negotiations are in a more advanced stage so we should get word on whether it will happen before news of the SD fight.

Yep. The opponent is old. Check. And Canelo can probably drain him down a few pounds. Catchweights are so awesome. Check.

It’s strange Canelo is skipping 168 to become a 3 weight world champion

There’s a couple of easy pickings at 168 for a genuine title, just depends on what DAZN are happy with

Canelo vs Kovs is awesome. I hope that happens before any fight. Kovs is soft bellied and Canelo has a great chance of chopping him down via hooks to the ribs all night.

I suspect Canelo is more comfortable at a weight above 160. He out grew 154 and maybe he out grew 160. He made 160 for Jacobs and fought well but gassed out in the late rounds. Anyway he has to fight Dervy next or lose that belt. They won't make Dervy wait while he fights Kovalev first. GGG would fight Canelo at any weight and Canelo won't fight GGG at any weight or place or time. Apparently that rematch will never happen and I hope GGG will fight Dervy for the belt.

He always gasses, and his team admitted he did the least amount of roadwork he had ever done. I don’t think the weigh had anything to do with it.

As long as there is no catch weight and rehydration clause, I’m all for it. Fight Kovalev without any compromises.
