Jameel McCline comback continues with win on FNF

With his victory last night over Terry "the troublemaker" Smith, Jameel Mccline has won his sixth fight in eight months since his loss to journeyman Zori lawrence.

I would say last night's fight was all-in-all a good heavyweight fight and decent, but not overly impressing, win for Jameel Mccline. Mccline was able to hit Smith with some big shots throughout the fight and had some good fluries, but didn't have Smith in any real trouble last night.

IMO Mccline needs to increase his overall punch production(i.e. throw more punches!)and throw more power shots when he has his opponent stunned. Mccline showed some signs of his power last night but let up on Smith for reasons unknown.

Question: How do you guys rank his performance last night? And more importantly, will he be able to contend for a title sometime in the near future?

i was pretty scared that you were making this thread to give praise to McCline for last night...

i thought the outcome last night was more of a case of Smith not going at it rather than McCline deciding the result..

He didn't show, IMO, that he could hang with Klitschko, Lyakhovich, Valuev, etc.. and if that was his plan, he failed last night..

Another thing i'd comment on.. i know typicaly it's a good thing for a fighter to be relaxed, but i think McCline can sometimes be too relaxed in the ring sometimes, where he's just content to trade meaningless punches and clinch.

id rate it a 5 on a scale of 1-10.

i dont see him being good enough to ever win a title even against the cirrent srop of champs, though im sure he will get a shot within the next year. as i said before hes following the shannon briggs "no risk" path to a title shot.

smith was a decent opponent but did none of the things he said he would do and needed to do to win the fight. he put up well for about 5 rounds and fell off thereafter.

mccline is 6'6 270 and carries no real knockout power. and he is not a skilled boxer/puncher. i believe he landed about 3 jabs a round last night. which means he cant survive long against any top heavy.

Mccline has power, he just chooses not to use it as much as he should. There was a couple times last night that looked like he was on the verge of opening up and knocking Smith out of there. Maybe he just lacks the mental aspect of the game because with size and punching power he should have been able to KO Terry Smith. I saw the same thing when he fought Calvin Brock last year.

McCline lost way too many big fights virtually in succession to be considered on a comeback right now. What he's doing is surviving and trying to make money because he can't get back to the top.

thats pretty much the bottom line

hes hoping to land one more million dollar fight, get KTFO, and get out of the game.

I doubt he even get that.

Mccline is taking the "Shannon Briggs" comeback trail in which you fight as much lower-level competition or "C" class fighters as you can and then hope to get a title shot against one of the numerous beltholders out there.

Plus, I wouldn't be surprised to see King, err.. I mean Valuev select him as a future opponent since his last two has been everthing but deserving.
