There will be VADA testing for the fight.

Simply put, not all boxing fans who tune into the fights that weekend are Mexican and not all Mexican FIGHT FANS only care about Mexican fighters. Would be a brilliant counter-programming move if Spence-Porter was held that weekend and Spence gained a legion of Mexican fans with a dominant "Mexican Style" performance.
It's not Cinco De Mayo (which changes every year); it's Kentucky Derby weekend (first Saturday of every May).

The horse race, usually a big baseball game (NY-BOS, SF-LA, Cubs-Sox, etc), and a big fight.

Mexican Independence day boxing is a recent enough occurrence that it's not on autopilot yet.

Spence-Porter does absolutely fine on its own

Who cares? The generation of folks who missed out on following boxing from the late 80's on, who could barely name 4 fighters.

            That's who cares.

Good, bad or otherwise, the general public has been basically given a 4-year run to be re-introduced to the sport that is professional boxing.

And, it turns out, the general audience actually has interest in boxing.

After basically three years of getting fights on ESPN/NBC/CBS/Spike/FOX, etc, the general audience is getting a guaranteed 22 shows on FOX/FS1 (3 and 4-fight cards), that far more often than not feature competitive fights.

Cry about not getting all of the name fighters for free all you want; if that's all you want to see, that sounds like a personal problem to me.

            Wilder-Fury in December 2018, Pacquiao-Broner, Spence-Garcia, Thurman-Pacquiao, Spence-Porter, and Wilder-Ortiz 2 in November 2019 is the presumptive PPV calendar for PBC.

Are you honestly going to argue that nothing else was good to watch going on this year?
