Comments Thread For: Moretti: Warrington Won't Fight Stevenson Unless He's Mandatory

NEWARK, N.J. Shakur Stevenson's handlers don't think Josh Warrington would fight their undefeated contender, not even in England. Warrington was among the 126-pound champions Stevenson called out after obliterating Alberto Guevara on Saturday night at Prudential Center. The 2016 Olympic silver medalist from Newark is more than willing to challenge England's Warrington in his native country, but preliminary discussions for that bout between Stevenson's promoters at Bob Arum's Top Rank Inc. and Frank Warren, Warrington's promoter, haven't gone very far.

Really hope other promoters work with Top Rank in regards to Stevenson. Santa Cruz, Tug, Warrington. I wanna see if Shakur is the real deal! He looks good so far!

Probably high risk, low reward if Stevenson is a voluntary.

Warrington didn’t want to fight Galahad and only did because he had to for a mandatory, his team said they didn’t really want the fight. Many believe Galahad won that fight, so now you know why they didn’t want it.

So yeah, it doesn’t seem Warrington is up for taking any difficult voluntaries. Just mandatories and unifications, or probably easy defences if it isn’t those things.

Ironic... They'll be willing to make the fight as long as they're not asking for options on Stevenson. Isn't that what TR asked of everyone, it's ok for them to ask for options but not other promoters?

There's no money in the fight - Warrington is unknown in the States and Stevenson is unknown in the UK. The obvious fight is Valdez or fight for the vacant.
Why isn't Top Rank first making a unification with Valdez - Warrington, get Stevenson 2 more fights in the interim and then see if you make a fight with the winner of the unification.
On th eother side of the tracks - LSC vs GRJ is way overdue.

simple solution . fight in a final eliminator , win it and become mandatory.

If any division needs a WBSS then it's 126Lb. GRJ (If he can get outta bed) LSC, Warrington, Vargas, Stevenson, Xu & Frampton, anyone?

Too many rival promoters. Wouldn’t happen, unfortunately.

Warrington would have gotten beaten like a rented mule and wouldn't have gotten close enough to Shakur to use his head like he normally does.
