DDLH looked like he had some solid potential a few years ago but his career has stagnanted since then. Maybe he needs to move up but at what point he looked like a legitimate title contender.

As for GBP having their favorites losing? It can be seen as good matchmaking, but the reality is that wasn't what happened with the Hernandez fight. He was a HUGE favorite and was supposed to win. Machado wasn't supposed to lose to Cancio but they ended up getting a good story line out of that one. Rios was left for dead last year and he stops DDLH. So I wouldn't just say it has been good matchmaking. Just that their guys have been getting upset. It happens. But at least stylistically Machado vs Cancio and Rios vs DDLH was going to be exciting one way or another. So in that sense good on Diaz.

And by the way the guys who got the upsets are all with Golden boy anyway. Ronny Rios has been fighting for Golden boy forever. Gutierrez who also got a upset has fought mostly overseas in Venezuela but he came to the US for the first time in 2017 and has now fought exactly 4 times in the US all with Golden boy promoting him. Golden boy fighters beat...Golden boy fighters.
Exactly. Ronny Rios is with Golden Boy too so it doesn't matter. That was a great fight and GB has the best matchmaking in terms of action fights.

Not too big a surprise. So many great but unheralded boxers kicking about these days. Even though Diego De La Hoya is far better than Oscar ever was, boxers have advanced so much over the last decade or two, that he just can't compete anywhere near the top level.

Oscar did great things in a very weak era of boxing, but Diego is better than Oscar. It's a great time to be a boxing fan, no more overhyped, overrated bums dominating, just loads of great, great fighters. Can't wait for Dave Allen vs Big David Price next weekend - An all time classic awaits us, sent from the Gods.
