You are full of ****. Joshua had plenty of opportunities to fight Ortiz but declined. When he finally offered Ortiz the fight, it was 3 weeks notice, and Ortiz's management said no, with Ortiz hearing it after the fact.

In the end he should have took it because he would be champ now. Joshua was exposed bigtime by a short chubby fringe contender that could box better than muscle bound Joshua. Now THAT was embarrassing.

My personla view is that Luis Ortiz made a good choice of not accepting the fight offered at the last minute. That would have ruined Ortiz's career as it only gave him 3-4 wks to prepare. He would have lost.
Ruiz on the other hand just came off a training camp and he didn't have to do too much so it was good that he accepted the offer.
And the end result is in front of all of us to see. That was the biggest mistake by Hearn because he made the match in haste.

The WBC and PBC are turning our sport into a purely for profit organisation. Haymon is a Business graduate with little or no experience (or apparent interest for that matter) in the promotional and match-making side of the sport.
Haymon's business model is quite simple: Buy up as much talent as possible with lots of analytics, data and future earnings speculation factored in, Hype up and invest in the most profitable commodities (that's what a fighter is in a purely capitalist system), Then promote fights that are clearly statistically predictable in outcome and you eventually have a guy with a belt around his waist who can start making a return on his investment (ROI).

He makes most of his money from network/ T.V deals, but has other revenue streams outside of boxing so he doesn't have to worry - hence the pathological inactivity of his stable of fighters.

In any cross-promotional negotiations, he's going to come out on top, because other promoters already realise he's a hard man to deal with, and he will only take the best they have to offer. His secret? He doesn't care, he's not emotionally invested as much as most other promoters, so he's happy to let negotiations fall through on a big fight if he doesn't get the cut and conditions he wants.

In essence, this is just an adventure for him, a lark, and when he gets bored or the model isn't presenting the ROI's he'll pull out, selling his fighters contracts at a profitable price, and you can bet he'll do it before we all know what's going on.

I looked up the article when they turned it down, and it was April 23rd, which leaves 5 weeks until June 1st. In that 5 weeks they have to organize sparring partners, get in shape, spar, among other things. 5 weeks is still a short camp for the heavyweight championship of the world. They could have delayed it a few weeks.

Ruiz probably had 4 weeks at the most. Regardless, the great AJ was exposed, and a laughing stock many places. He'll be back, but probably not what he once was unless he takes his time.
