  • Comments Thread For: Callum Smith Not Confident of Getting Canelo, Open To Kovalev

WBA super middleweight champion Callum Smith is not confident that Canelo Alvarez will select him for a year-end showdown. Canelo, who holds three world titles at middleweight and the WBA "regular" title at 168, has mentioned Smith as a frontrunner for a planned return in September.

What about the Frank warren offer of 50-50 against BJS? Would Hearn block that fight? That is a good offer (BT PPV), unless Team smith can offer the same split for the fight to happen on sky sports.

Doesn't sound like Smith is interested in Saunders?

There's plenty of clearing up available @ 168Lb. As Ray say's there's the BJS fight + WBC & IBF belts to go for. The WBC had actually ordered Smith to fight for the title after he'd won the WBSS. The Kovelev situation appears to be right messed up at this moment & the WBO need to get involved & get it dealt with, Anthony Yarde is getting pissed around proper big time!!...........

As good as Canelo is, he will not beat Callum Smith at 168Lbs without a re-hydration or catch-weight clause that Smith's team will not agree to. If Smith wan'ts super-fights, he needs to be looking up rather than down in weight divisions. I have no idea how a 6'3" man makes 168Lbs anyway; I'm 3 inches shorter and would struggle to make 175Lbs without being weight-drained

Callum should fight at LHW, at least...

That seems like the best fight, but if he's determined to go to 175, why not Bivol, who is the WBA Champion, and fights on DAZN? Seems like an easier fight to make! Unify later!

From a Hearn point of view i wouldn't be shocked if he put that fight in front of smith, he must hate that Warren made that offer public, because now it would seem like its him thats ducking the fight.

Spot on. Canelo's contract for him would be full of rubbish demands. Smith vs Benavidez is the best 168 fight. He would be a threat at 175.
